The Opportunity
We are seeking a visionary, high-growth Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to partner with our CEO and Private Equity sponsors in building a premier commercial roofing organization from the ground up. This is not a "maintenance" role; we are looking for a builder who can architect the financial infrastructure required to scale the organization to become a dominant market leader. The ideal candidate possesses deep Commercial Roofing industry expertise and the "scrappiness" required for a startup environment, balanced with the sophisticated financial rigor expected by Private Equity.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Growth & Market Domination
- Business Architecture: Design the financial roadmap to scale the company through a combination of organic greenfield growth and aggressive M&A.
- M&A Execution: Lead the financial due diligence, valuation, and integration of target roofing contractors as we roll up market share.
- Capital Allocation: Manage the relationship with PE sponsors to ensure capital is deployed efficiently to high-ROI territories and service lines.
2. Financial Infrastructure & Systems
- System Implementation: Spearhead the transition from "startup" tools to a robust, scalable ERP (e.g., Netsuite, Sage Intacct, Viewpoint, or Acumatica) specifically tailored for construction/roofing.
- Job Costing & Profitability: Establish rigorous unit-level economics, ensuring precise tracking of labor, materials (TPO, EPDM, Metal), and overhead for every project.
- Compliance: Oversee all financial reporting, tax, and audit requirements, ensuring transparency and "deal-ready" books at all times.
3. Operational Partnership
- Commercial Strategy: Partner with the Sales and Estimating teams to refine bidding strategies that maximize gross margins in competitive markets.
- Supply Chain & Fleet: Negotiate vendor rebates and manage the financing for a rapidly expanding fleet of service vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Risk Management: Manage bonding capacity, insurance programs, and safety-related financial liabilities unique to the roofing industry.
4. People & Culture
- Team Building: Recruit and mentor a high-performing finance and HR department as the company expands across multiple states.
- Incentive Design: Create performance-based compensation structures for field leadership and sales teams to align with EBITDA goals.
Candidate Requirements
- Industry Experience: Minimum 5–10 years in Commercial Roofing. You must understand the nuances of progress billing (AIA), lien waivers, and the seasonality of the roofing cycle.
- PE Background: Proven experience reporting to a Private Equity board, managing debt covenants, and preparing for eventual exit events.
- Startup Mindset: Demonstrated ability to build a finance function from scratch—moving from "doing the work" to "leading the team."
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of construction accounting standards and advanced experience in ERP implementations.
- Education: CPA and/or MBA preferred.
