We are seeking an energetic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations with precision and vision. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of financial management, ensuring fiscal health and compliance while supporting our mission-driven initiatives. Your leadership will drive financial strategy, risk management, and organizational growth, inspiring confidence across all levels of the organization. The qualifications are as follows:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related qualifications required. CPA and /or Masters of Accounting or Finance / MBA preferred.
- Minimum of five years of finance/accounting experience in a senior financial-management role, including experience in accounting, financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, auditing, annual tax filings, payroll, benefits administration, and insurance, preferably in a non-profit organization.
- Knowledge of accounting computer software applications to supply the most accurate financial information
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to adapt to a flexible, fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment
- Demonstrated knowledge in ensuring all accounting and financial reporting practices are in accordance with appropriate regulatory and third-party requirements (such as federal and state government agencies, foundations, GAAP etc.).
- Solid experience in budgeting, forecasting and identifying cost control / improvement opportunities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in managing annual audit with outside auditors and ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and in coordinating management's response to any management comment letter items.
- Experience serving on a Board preferred. Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies aligned with organizational goals, fostering sustainable growth.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Management of general ledger maintenance, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, annual audit, review of annual IRS Form 990 and other tax filings
- Direct the preparation of all financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, reports to Board of Directors and other external agencies, as required.
- Provide various financial reports at Finance Committee and Board meetings, as requested.
- Oversees accounting department, annual budget preparation, and manage annual audit with outside auditors.
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary and grant reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and timely reportingProven senior leadership experience in financial management within non-profit or governmental sectors; supervisory experience required.
- Ensure that all accounting and financial reporting practices are in accordance with appropriate regulatory and third-party requirements (such as federal and state government agencies, foundations, etc.), organizational objectives and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Manage tax-exempt and other financings and negotiate the most effective rates and terms balanced with minimizing the administrative burden and ensuring compliance with covenants.
- Establish and maintain relationships with financial institutions which provide operational banking services, including checking accounts, lines of credit, account reconciliations, fraud control and on-line access to accounts.
- Prepare and analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses and advise the CEO/ Finance Committee of potential weak areas and areas for financial improvement
- Oversee the CA’s insurance and risk management program. In conjunction with Human Resources, investigate, implement and maintain competitive and cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits.
- Work with the Development Department in preparation of grants and funding requests, helping to grow fundraising revenues
- Manage Charter School pension and CA 401K plans, including preparation of annual census data and review of Form 5500.
- Assist Business Manager for the Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Charter School and oversee all related financial management functions.
- Other duties as assigned by either the CEO or Finance Committee.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Mostly sedentary work. Will be using both hands for data entry.
Pay: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
