Care. Comfort. Compassion.
These words define the purpose and guiding spirit of the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. If they resonate with your values, we invite you to consider the opportunity to serve as Chief Financial Officer with one of Canada’s most respected animal welfare organizations.
Dedicated to improving the lives of animals and the people who care for them, the Ontario SPCA works across the province through a range of community support services delivered by a committed team of professionals and hundreds of volunteers. From sheltering and adoption programs to veterinary services, humane education, and northern outreach initiatives, the organization makes a meaningful impact in communities throughout Ontario.
Through its network of animal centres and community partnerships, the Ontario SPCA supports thousands of adoptions each year, performs thousands of spay/neuter and veterinary procedures, and distributes nearly one million meals annually to help keep pets with the families who love them.
A registered charity with a proud history spanning more than 150 years, the Ontario SPCA has undergone significant transformation in recent years. Today, the organization has a clear vision for the future, a collaborative and mission-driven culture, and a strong governance structure that supports its continued leadership in animal welfare.
The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and mission-driven Chief Financial Officer who brings strong financial stewardship alongside the agility required to operate in a dynamic, purpose-driven organization.
The successful candidate will be an experienced financial leader who can operate at scale while remaining nimble, pragmatic, and action-oriented. They will understand how to support a complex organization with multiple revenue streams, including philanthropy, grant funding, and social enterprise activities such as veterinary clinics and community programs, while ensuring strong financial controls and long-term sustainability.
As a key member of the Leadership Team, the CFO will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, senior leadership, and Board of Directors. They will provide clear financial insight that supports strategic decision-making, long-term financial planning, and effective governance.
The CFO will also lead and develop a dedicated finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement while ensuring strong financial operations across the organization.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who works effectively across departments and with colleagues at varying levels of financial knowledge. They will translate complex financial information into clear, practical insights that support program leaders, operational teams, and fundraising staff in achieving their goals.
This individual will also be a strong communicator who can engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and support teams working across multiple locations and remote environments.
Above all, the successful candidate will bring a practical, solutions-oriented mindset and a deep commitment to supporting a mission-driven organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals and strengthening communities across Ontario. This is an opportunity for a financial leader who is motivated by purpose and eager to help steward the resources that enable the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society to advance its mission across the province.
