My client is a high‑growth construction company headquartered in Virginia with approximately $80M in annual revenue and a substantial pipeline of awarded and upcoming contracts. The organization is entering a rapid scale-up phase and preparing for a private equity exit within 3 years. They are seeking a strategically minded and technically strong Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with deep construction industry experience to lead their financial operations and support the next stage of expansion.
The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for driving financial strategy, overseeing day‑to‑day financial operations, and ensuring rigorous financial discipline across the organization. This leader will bring extensive experience in construction accounting, including WIP reporting, percentage‑of‑completion accounting, and US GAAP compliance, along with a proven track record supporting high‑growth companies in preparation for a successful exit event.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a financial strategy that supports scaling the business toward a PE exit within 3 years.
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to drive profitability, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth.
- Provide financial leadership on potential M&A opportunities, capital structure, and long‑term value creation.
- Oversee all financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, audit, and tax.
- Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Manage and improve WIP schedules, percentage‑of‑completion reporting, and revenue recognition processes.
- Ensure strong internal controls, financial governance, and compliance.
- Strengthen project-level financial visibility by improving job cost tracking, margin controls, and forecasting accuracy.
- Provide financial oversight of contract performance, backlog, and pipeline metrics.
- Support project managers with data-driven insights, training, and best practices.
- Upgrade systems, processes, and financial infrastructure to support rapid revenue expansion.
- Implement KPIs, dashboards, and performance analytics that enhance decision-making across the business.
- Prepare and present financial reports to investors, banks, bonding companies, and potential private equity partners.
To be considered for this exceptional CFO opportunity, you should possess a CPA qualification, minimum 10 years progressive financial leadership, with significant experience in the construction industry (general contracting, heavy civil, specialty trades, or similar). Deep expertise in WIP (Work‑in‑Progress) reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, US GAAP for construction, job costing, margin reporting, contract accounting. Experience scaling a construction or project‑driven business to the $100M+ revenue level. Proven ability to support recapitalization, PE partnerships, or exit strategies.
