Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Job Description

Position summary:
The CFO is responsible for overseeing and developing financial processes, policies, and procedures that allow the agency to meet its needs and achieve its goals. The CFO is also responsible for ensuring both the short and long-term financial health of the agency through the development and implementation of these processes, policies and procedures that support the mission and mandate of the agency.
Classification:
This position is a non-unionized, Senior management position that is based out of the Juniper Centre’s main office.
Major responsibilities:
- Financial Responsibilities: contributes to the financial health of the agency and safeguards its assets by developing and implementing and overseeing policies, systems and internal controls relative to budget preparation and cash management, payroll, asset protection, property management, financial reporting and others that will help protect the organization’s interests on an ongoing basis.
- Human Resource Management: Position communicates performance expectations; facilitates problem solving, resolves conflict, and manages the performance management process, contributing to the overall development of the junior management team and Admin Assistant position.
- Board Liaison: works closely with the board of directors to ensure the effective communication of matters that are of interest and concern to the business of the Board. Attends all meetings of the Board to help facilitate the business of the Board.
- Planning: In conjunction with the Board of Directors and senior managers, works to develop and implement and effective business and strategic planning process that will identify areas for program growth and development which are consistent with the agency’s mission, vision and goals.
- Administer Policies and Procedures: Administers financial policies and procedures that contribute to the effective operation of the agency and ensures that staff members are aware of and understand policies and procedures. In conjunction with the Board of Directors, recommends changes to policies that will contribute to enhancing both the day to day and longer term operation of the agency.
- Fundraising: Assists in developing and implementing an overall fundraising strategy for the agency that is consistent with approved business strategies and organizational initiatives including the development and submission of grant proposals, negotiating of funding and finalizing the awarding of funding.
- Advocate: Advocates for justice, inclusion and full community participation, ensuring that the agency operates in a manner that will empower individuals to achieve their personal outcomes.
- Public Relations: Develops and maintains positive public relations with community, support networks, business, external agencies, funding bodies and other professionals to further the work of the agency and its presence within the community.
- Administration: Has administrative responsibility for the agency to support union negotiations, property management, transportation records management and monitoring of funds. Performing duties in accordance with legislative and legal requirements.
- Other duties: All other duties as assigned by the board of directors.
Confidentiality:
All employees must respect and maintain the confidentiality of information related to the people we support and must comply with the Juniper Centre Inc. confidentiality agreement and all provincial or federal information protection legislation.
Key relationships:
Works with: The people we support, the Board of Directors, the JCI management team, Family Services representatives, USW 8223 representatives, and other stakeholders in the community.
Reports to: The Juniper Centre Inc. Board of Directors
Direct reports: The Juniper Centre Inc. Management team.
Outside Agency Contacts: Manitoba Family Services, banks, JCI auditor and accountant, property owners, vendors, supporters, community members, etc
Working Conditions:
The CFO will primarily be working admin out of the Juniper Centre Inc. day program building and the City of Thompson at large. Various conditions may include:
· Working alone
· Working from home (on call)
· Working outdoors in both heat and cold
· Attending medical facilities
· Working at night when responding to on call needs
· Work language: English
Physical requirements:
The CFO provides mostly admin support. Physical needs of the position may require:
· Sitting for long periods
· Computer use
· Driving
· Lifting over 50 lbs (filing, etc)

· Conditions of service:
