Coastal Group is a privately held, family-owned transportation and logistics platform with nearly 30 years of operating history. The company operates a diversified, asset-based model across trucking, multi-temperature logistics, and a rapidly expanding cold storage platform.
Headquartered in Troy, Missouri, with operations in Foristell, MO, Coastal continues to invest in fleet, infrastructure, and facility expansion, driving increased scale and operational complexity across the business.
With multiple operating entities spanning transportation, warehousing, and equipment assets, the company is building a disciplined financial infrastructure to support long-term growth, capital efficiency, and generational ownership transition.
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for all financial aspects of the platform.
This is a build-and-scale mandate, not a maintenance role. The CFO will bring structure, discipline, and strategic clarity to a multi-entity, asset-intensive platform, with responsibility across accounting, tax strategy, capital allocation, and financial planning.
A central focus of the role is aligningaccrual-based operational performance with cash-based tax strategy, while supporting ongoing cold storage expansion and capital deployment initiatives.
The CFO will work directly with ownership to drive financial strategy, enhance visibility across business lines, and build a scalable finance function that supports continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Partner directly with ownership to define and execute long-term financial strategy
- Lead enterprise-wide planning, forecasting, and budgeting across all divisions
- Provide visibility into profitability by customer, business line, and asset class
- Build a finance function that drives operational decision-making—not just reporting
Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Oversee accounting across a multi-entity structure, including:
- Accrual-based financial reporting (internal operations)
- Cash-basis tax strategy (external reporting)
- Ensure clean reconciliation between financial reporting and tax positions
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls while preserving operational agility
- Upgrade reporting cadence to deliver real-time financial and operational insight
Tax Strategy & Ownership Planning (Core Focus)
- Lead advanced tax strategy across a multi-entity structure spanning operations, real estate, and equipment assets
- Optimize tax position through:
- Bonus and accelerated depreciation
- Cost segregation tied to cold storage facilities and expansion projects
- Strategic entity structuring across operating and asset-holding entities
- Actively manage the relationship between accrual financial performance and cash-based tax outcomes to enhance liquidity
- Partner with ownership ongenerational planning and long-term wealth strategy
- Manage external advisors and ensure full regulatory compliance
Capital Allocation & Platform Expansion
- Evaluate and prioritize significant capital deployment across:
- Fleet expansion (tractors and trailers)
- Cold storage development, expansion phases, and facility optimization
- Equipment financing and leasing strategies
- Support financial modeling and ROI analysis for ongoing expansion initiatives
- Lead all lender, banking, and financing relationships across the platform
- Oversee liquidity, cash flow, and working capital management
Operational Finance
- Drive cost control and margin improvement across transportation and warehousing
- Analyze fleet performance, driver productivity, and asset utilization
- Support pricing strategy and customer profitability analysis
Systems & Infrastructure
- Strengthen financial systems and reporting tools to support scale
- Improve integration across accounting, TMS, and WMS platforms
- Build scalable processes that provide real-time visibility into operational and financial performance
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop accounting, billing, and payroll teams (7–8 professionals)
- Establish accountability, reporting cadence, and performance expectations
- Build a finance organization aligned with operational execution
Success Metrics
Success in this role will be measured by:

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA, MBA preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior roles
- Background in transportation, logistics, warehousing, or asset-based businesses strongly preferred
- Deep expertise in:
- Multi-entity financial management
- Accrual accounting and cash-basis tax strategy
- Tax planning for privately held or family-owned businesses
- Experience with:
- Capital allocation and asset-heavy investment environments
- Equipment financing and lender relationships
- Familiarity with cost segregation and real estate-driven tax strategies strongly preferred
- Proven ability to build and scale financial infrastructure and teams
