Chief Financial Officer | Federally Qualified Health Center | Colorado
Salary: Up to $180,000 base, plus comprehensive benefits
Location: Colorado mountain region (hybrid, Front Range candidates strongly encouraged) Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
The Opportunity
Octo Search Partners has been retained to find the next Chief Financial Officer for a federally qualified health center serving Colorado's mountain region. This is a confidential search for a growing FQHC with approximately $17M in annual revenue, nearly 20 clinical locations across three Colorado counties including a strong portfolio of school based health centers, and integrated service lines spanning primary care, dental, behavioral health, pediatrics, vision, and pharmacy. The organization serves more than 10,000 patients annually across 37,000+ visits.
The organization is in a genuine transformation moment. A new CEO has rebuilt the executive team over the past eighteen months, a new EMR and HRIS are live, and the finance function is ready for a strategic leader to partner with the CEO and board on the next chapter.
Why This Role Is Different
This CFO has a seat at the table. The executive team is small and engaged, working directly with an active, committed board. You will report to the CEO, present to the board at regular intervals, and operate as a true member of the leadership team.
If you have ever worked at a health system where finance was treated as a back office compliance function and wondered what it would look like to actually shape strategy, this is that role.
What You Will Own
You will lead all financial operations for the organization: accounting, revenue cycle oversight, financial planning and analysis, grants management, 340B financial strategy, HRSA 330 reporting, and capital planning. The finance team includes a strong Controller already in seat, an outsourced revenue cycle partner, and an eligibility supervisor overseeing a team of three.
You will own the annual budget process, cash management, payer mix strategy, and board level financial presentations. You will also be an active partner with the COO and CCO on operational and clinical financial decisions as the organization continues to grow.
Beyond the numbers, you will be expected to be visible. Drive out to the flagship location once or twice per month, attend board meetings in person three to four times per year, engage with clinical and operational staff, and represent the organization in the broader FQHC community.
Who We Are Looking For
This role requires meaningful FQHC experience. Not adjacent community health, not generally mission driven healthcare, but specifically federally qualified health center finance. You understand HRSA 330 funding, UDS reporting, sliding fee scale economics, 340B pharmacy revenue, and the operational realities of multi site safety net care.
The ideal candidate brings:
Active CPA preferred. Not required for the right candidate with strong FQHC credentials.
Senior finance leadership experience, ideally including prior CFO or senior director level responsibility, with direct FQHC experience.
Strategic orientation. You think in terms of cash flow, payer mix, grant strategy, and capital planning, not just monthly closes.
Revenue cycle fluency, including experience working with or managing outsourced RCM partners in a safety net environment.
Comfort presenting to a federally compliant board with patient majority composition.
The personality to engage. The CEO is looking for a partner who shows up, talks to staff, builds relationships, and takes ownership of the mission rather than operating from behind a screen.
What You Get
Compensation. Base salary up to $180,000 depending on experience, with full medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401k, generous PTO, and professional development support.
Work Model. Hybrid. Candidates based on the Colorado Front Range are ideal given the drive to the flagship location. Relocation support available for the right candidate.
Colorado Perks. The organization is based in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Employees have access to shared ski passes, a wellness account, and the kind of outdoor lifestyle the mountain communities are known for. For the right person these are a meaningful bonus on top of the core role.
Mission. You will help lead an organization that serves patients across three Colorado counties regardless of ability to pay, including a significant uninsured and underinsured population. This is work that matters, at an organization where the executive team, board, and staff are aligned on the mission.
