Position Summary:
Reporting to the President, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic partner to the senior leadership team and works closely with the Operations Manager.
The CFO is responsible for providing accurate, timely financial leadership, analysis, and operational support in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining strong internal service and effective communication.
Responsibilities: - Provide strategic financial leadership to support organizational goals, budgets, forecasts, and long-term growth.
- Advise the President, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team on financial performance, strategic initiatives, and operational decisions.
- Lead the development and implementation of financial systems, policies, procedures, and process improvements to strengthen efficiency and controls.
- Establish annual financial objectives aligned with the company’s growth and expansion plans.
- Serve as Corporate Secretary/Treasurer and support the President and Board in fulfilling related duties and obligations.
Essential Duties:- Prepare and present periodic financial reports, including profit and loss statements, budget-to-forecast analysis, and weekly cash flow reporting.
- Review financial results, identify trends, and provide recommendations to support sound business decisions.
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for operating and strategic initiatives.
- Oversee the financial planning and analysis function, including reporting tools, systems, and process improvements.
Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations- Lead the accounting function to ensure the integrity of financial systems, records, reporting, and internal controls.
- Oversee accounts receivable, period-end and month-end close processes, general ledger activity, and management reporting.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of weekly, periodic, and annual financial statements and required remittances, tax filings, and regulatory reports.
- Support compliance by working with Human Resources, external auditors, and internal teams to maintain legal, financial, and information technology controls.
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems, processes, and team coordination.
Financial Management- Manage cash flow, investments, asset management, and banking relationships, and provide recommendations on financial risk and return.
- Use forward-looking financial models and activity-based analysis to support business planning and budgeting.
- Oversee payroll, benefits, pension, and related financial functions within the company, and work closely with the Payroll Manager to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
Financial Relations and Policies- Represent the company with banks, financial partners, investors, auditors, and regulatory officials.
- Maintain current knowledge of audit practices and applicable local, provincial, and federal regulatory requirements.
Finance and Accounting Team Management- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, including work allocation, systems training, performance management, and team effectiveness.
- Manage the Payroll and Benefits Manager and provide oversight of payroll, benefits, pension, and other related functions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and effective administration.
Cash Management- Oversee weekly cash management, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions, including approval of significant disbursements.
- Prepare and present weekly cash position reporting for senior management and the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a CPA designation.
- Public accounting background with a minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including at least 5 years as a CFO in a large privately held corporation.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, compliance, and external audit requirements.
- Experience working with information technology teams to manage or implement accounting systems and related process improvements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving.
- Highly skilled in advanced features of Microsoft Excel as well as other Microsoft Office applications.
