Chief Financial Officer / VP of Accounting to join our executive leadership team.

This executive-level role will oversee Fann Contracting’s
Accounting, IT, and HR Departments, with responsibility for financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, payroll oversight, financial reporting, tax compliance, audit preparation, employee benefits, insurance and workers’ compensation oversight, legal and regulatory compliance, technology systems, software platforms, vendor relationships, cybersecurity support, and HR administration.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, construction accounting expertise, and a practical business mindset. Experience with job cost, equipment cost, materials cost accounting, federally funded projects, and heavy civil construction operations is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the company’s accounting, IT, HR, administrative, and financial management functions.
- Prepare and present monthly accounting and financial reports to ownership and executive leadership.
- Oversee financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, tax reporting, cash flow, audits, and compliance.
- Manage accounts payable, cash receipts and disbursements, general ledger, job cost accounting, equipment cost accounting, and related construction accounting processes.
- Oversee IT management, including technology systems, software platforms, vendor relationships, cybersecurity support, and technology-related planning.
- Support HR-related functions, including employee benefits, payroll coordination, personnel-related financial matters, policy administration, and compliance support.
- Leads insurance matters, including but not limited to employee benefits, work comp, contracts, and bonds.
- Analyze project estimates, billing, profit projections, budgets, and actual financial performance.
- Recommend improvements related to financial planning, cost control, efficiency, department coordination, and long-term growth.
- Proficient in job cost accounting, asphalt and aggregate production accounting, equipment accounting, and overall company accounting.
- Work closely with the President, Vice Presidents, and executive team on strategic planning, priorities, capital needs, and business opportunities.
- Maintain familiarity with federally funded construction requirements, including Davis-Bacon and related compliance obligations.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to accounting, administrative, IT, and HR team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of construction accounting management experience; CFO-level candidates should have broader executive financial management experience.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, cash receipts and disbursements, general ledger, construction job cost accounting, equipment cost accounting, and related financial processes.
- Experience specific to heavy-construction construction accounting strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of heavy civil construction operations.
- Experience with federally funded projects, including Davis-Bacon Act requirements and other federal contracting requirements.
- Strong tax knowledge, including payroll taxes.
- Experience with detailed audit preparation and monthly financial reporting to executive leadership.
- Ability to read and understand contract documents with a high degree of clarity and accuracy.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with accounting and database systems.
- Viewpoint Construction Software experience is helpful.
- Extremely detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of solving complex problems.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow through on daily responsibilities.
- Above-average written, verbal, telephone, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Ideally, has experience with HCSS HeavyJob & HeavyBid, Trimble by Viewpoint, and Entrinsik Informer.
- Experience with insurance lines, 401(k) administration, personnel management, cash management, and other executive-level responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
- This is an in-office position based at Fann Contracting’s office and is not a remote role.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are required.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
- Must be able to move throughout the office and access various departments as needed.
