Our client is a dynamic, innovation-driven consumer goods company serving the global gardening community who has built a trusted legacy with cost-effective solutions sold via traditional retail channels. The company is now expanding into premium, high-margin offerings and selling directly to consumers. As part of the company’s efforts to ensure it is well positioned for a strong, long-term operational future, it is seeking to bring aboard a Sales Operations Specialist.
This newly revised role sits at the intersection of customer service, order management, and data analysis and exists to support our sales and marketing teams and ensure seamless execution of customer orders and operational processes. The role will be an in-house position, working at the company’s headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Key Responsibilities
- Support sales and marketing functions through operational coordination and customer management
- Manage the full order lifecycle—from purchase order receipt to customer delivery—while monitoring all touchpoints in between
- Utilize and troubleshoot EDI systems for order processing and transactional accuracy
- Maintain customer price lists, product files, and backend system data
- Analyze sales and inventory data to provide insights that inform business decisions
- Build sell-in and sell-thru reporting and dashboards/spreadsheets for internal use (high level sell-in data to highlight top selling skus, top performing customers, etc.), and present data in a clear, actionable format to support sales and marketing to identify business trends and opportunities
- Ensure compliance with customer routing guides, documentation standards, and operational policies
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries and escalation support in partnership with internal teams
- Maintain cadence with sales and marketing to identify product gaps or customer issues and advise of inventory or delivery constraints and highlight large orders
- Able to work cross-functionally across departments with all key stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Experience in sales operations, order management, customer service, and/or a related function
- Working knowledge of EDI or similar transactional systems
- Strong analytical abilities with high proficiency in Excel or BI tools
- Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-management skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Customer-oriented mindset and a collaborative approach
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting national retail, wholesale, or consumer goods accounts
- Knowledge of inventory management or forecasting tools
- Exposure to ERP systems
