Merchant Growth

About Merchant Growth
Merchant Growth is Canada's leading fintech for small business financing and one of the country's most recognized growth stories, celebrated by The Globe and Mail's Top Growing Companies and BC Finalist for Deloitte's Best Managed Companies. We're on a mission to fuel the ambitions of Canadian business owners with the most convenient, accessible, and trusted financing experience in the market. Our Growth function owns the engine that powers that expansion: how we acquire merchants, how we structure our sales force, how we price our products, and how we measure what's working.
The Role
This is a new role on the Growth team, working directly with the Chief Growth Officer. It's the kind of role that's hard to title because it's deliberately broad. One week you might be designing a new commission plan for our agents. The next, building out a role-and-compensation framework for a function we're scaling. The week after, modelling sales production and shipping a dashboard the leadership team will use every Monday morning.
If you're looking for a narrow, well-defined job description with a clear five-year career ladder, this isn't that. If you're looking to be the high-leverage problem-solver behind one of the most important functions in a growing Canadian fintech, with direct exposure to the CGO and meaningful ownership from day one, read on.
You'll be a force multiplier. We invest heavily in modern AI tooling because we believe a smart, motivated person armed with the right tools can outperform a team of five from a decade ago because you’ll effectively be leading a team of 5+ AI experts. You won't need to be an expert in commission design, role architecture, or BI from day one. You'll need to be smart, hungry, and resourceful enough to figure it out, with the tools and the CGO's mentorship behind you.
What You'll Do
- Solve whatever the Growth function needs solved this quarter. Some examples of recent and upcoming work:
- Designing commission and bonus structures for our sales agents and account managers
- Building role architectures and compensation bands for new functions, benchmarked against external survey data
- Analyzing sales production, conversion, and pipeline performance — and turning the analysis into something the leadership team will actually act on
- Designing and building dashboards that replace the weekly fire-drill of someone-pulling-numbers-by-hand
- Sizing market opportunities, modelling pricing changes, evaluating new channels
- Become a power user of AI-native tools. Claude Code, NotebookLM, Excel with Claude, our BI stack. We'll teach you what we know; we expect you to push past it.
- Operate independently. You'll have a CGO who gives you context, a problem, and a deadline — and trusts you to figure out the rest.
- Communicate clearly. Write briefs that the exec team reads in three minutes and understands the recommendation, the data behind it, and the tradeoffs.
Who You Are
- Smart and intellectually curious. You can pick up an unfamiliar problem, ask the right questions, and figure out what "good" looks like.
- A real problem-solver. When something is ambiguous, your instinct is to break it down, not to wait for instructions.
- Comfortable with quantitative and analytical work. You don't have to be a data scientist, but you should be the person your friends ask to figure out the spreadsheet.
- A university graduate. Discipline is open - we've seen this role done well by engineers, economists, finance majors, and liberal arts grads. What matters more is how you think.
- Hardworking. This is a high-output role and we won't pretend otherwise. You'll be busy. You'll learn fast. You'll be trusted with real work.
- Excited about AI tooling. Or at least open-minded about it. The candidates who'll thrive here are the ones who treat Claude Code the way the previous generation treated Excel.
Nice to Have (But Not Required)
- 2-7 years of experience in consulting, finance, banking, BizOps, RevOps, FP&A, strategy, or a similar analytical generalist role
- Experience with SQL, Power BI / Tableau, or other BI tools
- Exposure to financial services, lending, or B2B sales operations
- Prior experience using Claude Code, Cursor, or other AI coding tools
Title and Level
We're posting this role at Senior Associate or Manager level, depending on experience. Final title will be calibrated based on the candidate's background — both new-grads with exceptional quantitative chops and mid-career operators are encouraged to apply.
Compensation
Competitive base salary plus performance bonus, benchmarked to the 75th percentile of the Canadian market for analytical generalist roles. Final offer scaled to the level we land on.
What We Offer
- An exciting position with a leading Canadian fintech company
- A remote workplace with an option to work in office (we are in Gastown)
- Comprehensive group health benefits (Life, AD&D, Extended Health & Dental and Travel Insurance)
- Company-wide monthly Lunch and Learns and team events
- A collaborative team environment
- Education and learning benefits
How to Apply
Send a resume and a short note (no cover letter required) explaining why this role is interesting to you. If you've used Claude Code or another AI coding tool to solve a real problem, tell us about that too - we'd rather see one concrete example than a list of credentials.
