Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for the overall financial strategy, planning, and management of the company. As a family-owned organization with multiple truck parts and service locations throughout Iowa, we are committed to industry-leading service, quality parts, and operational excellence. The CFO will help drive sustainable growth, profitability, and long-term value while preserving the culture and values that have made our company successful.
This role requires a strategic leader who can balance high-level financial planning with hands-on operational support. The CFO will provide financial leadership across all business functions, ensuring sound financial management, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with ownership to develop and execute strategic plans that drive growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support growth initiatives, acquisitions, capital investments, and expansion opportunities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership on financial performance, risk management, and business strategy.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) that align financial results with operational goals.
Financial Management
- Lead all accounting, finance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, banking relationships, and financing activities.
- Oversee annual budgeting across all locations.
- Develop financial models and analyses to support business decisions.
Operational Excellence
- Partner with operations leaders to improve profitability, efficiency, and productivity across service and parts departments.
- Analyze location-level performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Implement financial controls, reporting tools, and operational metrics that support accountability and decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance profitability and operational effectiveness.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Oversee tax planning, audits, insurance programs, and regulatory reporting.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with department leaders to enhance financial understanding throughout the organization.
- Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior management responsibilities.
- Proven experience managing multi-location operations.
- Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Experience working closely with executive leadership and ownership teams.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or other advanced financial credentials.
- Experience in the trucking, heavy-duty equipment, automotive aftermarket, distribution, service, manufacturing, or related industries.
- Experience in a family-owned or privately held business environment.
- Familiarity with inventory-intensive operations and service-based businesses.
