CFO Role:
The CFO / Partner will be a senior leader at Wells Group, responsible for managing strategic client relationships, leading complex CFO engagements, building and mentoring finance teams, and helping scale the firm’s CFO platform.
This person should be capable of stepping into high-stakes client situations, including capital raises, M&A processes, board reporting, restructuring, finance department builds, cash management, audit readiness, and private equity or venture-backed growth environments.
This is both a client-facing leadership role and a firm-building role. The right candidate will operate as a trusted CFO to clients while also helping Wells Group institutionalize its model, grow revenue, recruit senior talent, and expand the firm’s reputation in the market.
- Client Leadership
- Serve as Interim CFO, fractional CFO, or senior finance advisor to Wells Group clients.
- Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, board reporting, cash management, KPI development, and strategic planning.
- Advise CEOs, founders, boards, investors, and private equity sponsors on financial performance, capital allocation, growth strategy, and operational improvement.
- Support clients through financings, M&A transactions, diligence processes, lender conversations, and investor communications.
- Identify and solve finance and accounting gaps, including weak reporting, poor controls, delayed closes, cash flow issues, audit problems, or underdeveloped FP&A functions.
- Firm Leadership
- Help build Wells Group into the leading CFO platform for high-growth and lower middle market companies.
- Develop repeatable playbooks, client service models, reporting standards, and team structures.
- Manage and mentor Controllers, FP&A professionals, accountants, and offshore team members.
- Support recruiting of experienced CFOs, Controllers, and finance operators into the Wells Group platform.
- Participate in business development, including prospect meetings, proposal strategy, relationship management, and expansion of existing client accounts.
- Represent Wells Group in the market with investors, founders, bankers, attorneys, recruiters, and strategic partners.
- Execution and Accountability
- Own engagement quality, client satisfaction, profitability, and team performance.
- Ensure that client deliverables are accurate, timely, board-ready, and commercially useful.
- Create financial reporting and decision-making frameworks that help clients improve performance.
- Balance high-level strategic advice with hands-on execution when necessary.
- Operate with urgency, judgment, discretion, and a high degree of ownership.
Client Relationship (and Consulting Skills):
- 10+ years of senior finance leadership experience, ideally including CFO, VP Finance, Controller, investment banking, private equity, restructuring, or transaction advisory experience.
- Experience working with venture-backed, private equity-backed, founder-led, or high-growth companies.
- Strong understanding of accounting, FP&A, cash flow management, board reporting, capital raising, M&A, audit readiness, and operational finance.
- Ability to communicate credibly with CEOs, boards, investors, lenders, and senior operators.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex client or company situations.
- Commercial mindset with an interest in business development, relationship building, and firm growth.
- Professional services, consulting, fractional CFO, PE portfolio, or interim executive experience is a plus.
- CPA, MBA, investment banking, private equity, restructuring, or Big Four experience is helpful but not required.

Compensation and Equity:
- The role includes a competitive compensation package consisting of base salary, performance-based bonus, and eligibility for 2% to 5% equity ownership in Wells Group or its applicable holding company.
- Equity will be subject to standard vesting terms, expected to include a four-year vesting schedule with a one-year cliff, continued service requirements, and customary documentation approved by the company.
- Final equity percentage will be based on experience, seniority, client revenue contribution, leadership scope, and long-term strategic fit.
