We are a privately held real estate management and development company specializing in medical office buildings across Central New York. Our portfolio includes eight Class A medical office properties totaling more than 725,000 square feet. We oversee the full lifecycle of our assets — acquisition, development, leasing, operations, and long-term portfolio strategy — with a focus on stability, quality, and long-term value creation.
We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead all financial operations and guide the company through its next phase of growth.
Position Overview
The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for financial strategy, planning, reporting, and risk management across the company's operating and development activities. This role combines high-level strategic leadership with practical, day-to-day financial management in a lean, entrepreneurial environment.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in commercial real estate, property management, development finance, and capital markets, with a strong understanding of medical office or healthcare-related real estate as a plus.
The company will be transitioning from a third party to in-house accounting. Must be able to help choose and implement new accounting software.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute the company's financial strategy aligned with long-term portfolio goals
Provide financial insight and recommendations to support executive decision-making
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
Oversee financial modeling for acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects
Accounting & Financial Operations
Direct all accounting functions, including monthly/quarterly closes, audits, and compliance
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for ownership, lenders, and partners
Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
Oversee cash management, AP/AR, payroll, and treasury functions
Real Estate Finance & Asset Management
Manage property-level financial performance, including NOI analysis, capital planning, and variance reporting
Partner with property management and leasing teams to optimize asset value
Oversee CAM reconciliations, tenant billing, lease abstracts, and financial components of lease negotiations
Evaluate financing options and manage lender relationships
Development & Capital Projects
Lead financial oversight for development and renovation projects
Build and maintain pro formas, project budgets, and draw schedules
Coordinate with contractors, architects, and project managers on cost tracking and financial controls
Risk Management & Compliance
Oversee insurance programs, risk mitigation strategies, and regulatory compliance
Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local financial regulations
Manage tax planning, filings, and coordination with external tax advisors
Leadership & Team Development
Build and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team
Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
Minimum 5 years of senior-level financial management experience, ideally within commercial real estate, property management, or real estate development
Bachelors’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Strong understanding of real estate accounting, property-level financials, development budgeting, and capital structures
Experience managing lender relationships, financing transactions, and long-term capital planning
Expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management
Proven ability to lead accounting operations, audits, compliance, and internal controls
Hands-on, detail-oriented leadership style suited to a lean, entrepreneurial environment Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and team-building skills
