Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and provides strategic financial direction for a diversified enterprise consisting of more than 20 operating entities with annual revenues exceeding $170 million.
This role is responsible for leading all accounting and finance functions, driving strategic planning, supporting acquisitions and growth initiatives, managing banking and capital relationships, and partnering with senior leadership to optimize financial performance across the organization.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with strategic business acumen and has experience leading finance within a complex, multi-entity construction or industrial organization.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership
- Serve as the senior financial advisor to ownership and executive leadership.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term financial strategies aligned with organizational growth objectives.
- Participate in executive decision-making related to business operations, investments, and expansion initiatives.
- Present financial results, strategic recommendations, and key performance metrics to executive leadership.
Financial Management
- Lead all accounting and finance operations across a multi-entity organization.
- Oversee monthly financial reporting, consolidations, and performance analysis.
- Direct annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning.
- Manage enterprise-wide cash flow, liquidity planning, and financial forecasting.
- Develop financial models to support strategic initiatives and investment decisions.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor an established accounting leadership team, including senior finance managers and accounting professionals.
- Develop future finance leaders through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
- Promote continuous improvement throughout the finance organization.
- Educate operational leaders on financial performance, budgeting, and key business metrics.
Strategic Finance
- Evaluate acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic investment opportunities.
- Provide financial oversight for real estate acquisitions and development projects.
- Develop capital allocation strategies that maximize long-term enterprise value.
- Lead enterprise-wide change management initiatives impacting finance and operations.
Tax, Audit & Risk Management
- Partner with external CPA firms on annual audits, tax planning, compliance, and consulting engagements.
- Develop proactive tax planning strategies for the organization and ownership.
- Collaborate with legal counsel on financial, tax, and risk management initiatives.
- Oversee corporate insurance programs, including property & casualty coverage.
- Manage banking relationships, financing activities, and surety partnerships.
Operational Partnership
- Support business unit leaders with financial planning and operational decision-making.
- Lead recurring financial strategy meetings with operating companies.
- Partner cross-functionally to improve financial processes, reporting, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA strongly preferred
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
- Executive-level finance experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, manufacturing, or other asset-intensive industries
- Experience leading finance within a multi-entity or complex organizational structure
- Proven success scaling organizations and supporting business growth
- Strong background in strategic planning, financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting
- Experience managing banking, lending, surety, audit, and tax relationships
- Demonstrated success leading high-performing finance teams
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively to operational and executive leaders
- Strong leadership, organizational, and change management skills
