Chief Financial Officer
The Squash and Education Alliance seeks a Chief Financial Officer to oversee the organization’s financial management, accounting operations, operational infrastructure, and human resources functions. This is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, highly organized and strategic nonprofit finance and operations leader with strong accounting knowledge and experience evaluating and implementing systems, strengthening organizational infrastructure, and building scalable financial and operational processes within a growing organization. The CFO, who will report to the Executive Director, will play a critical role in leading an organization with a $4 million budget that oversees a $35 million a year network of 29 nonprofits serving 15,000 young people. The CFO will supervise two members of the SEA team (one FT and one PT) and work collaboratively with everyone at the 10+ person organization.
Finance & Accounting Operations
- Oversee SEA’s accounting operations, monthly closing, accounts payable, and internal controls in partnership with the Accounting & Operations Manager and CPA support
- Supervise Accounting & Operations Manager and other future finance staff
- Build, analyze, and present meaningful financial reports; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results to senior leadership and the Board
- Serve as liaison to the Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees of the Board
- Oversee cash management and investment policies/reporting related to SEA’s capital assets, including SEA’s 15,000 square foot facility in Bridgeport, CT
- Coordinate and lead the preparation and completion of the annual audit and 990 filing
- Oversee financial matters of SEA International, a separate but related 501(c)(3)
- Lead ongoing evaluation and improvement of financial systems, workflows, and internal controls to support organizational scale and operational efficiency
Operations, Compliance & Risk Management
- Strengthen SEA’s operational infrastructure by implementing systems and processes that support scalable internal operations and effective program delivery
- Oversee SEA’s insurance portfolio and contracts related to SEA’s office and facilities
- Review and participate in the management of significant organizational contracts
- Ensure organizational compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, including nonprofit, financial, employment, and operational compliance matters
- Oversee the operations and administration of the SEA office
- Serve as a point-person in the SEA network to consider network-wide opportunities to improve efficiency and economies of scale (software, insurance, HR, equipment, etc.
Human Resources
- Organize, implement, and continuously strengthen HR processes, including onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and staff policies
- Oversee SEA’s relationship with its Professional Employer Organization (PEO)
- Oversee the timely and accurate administration of payroll, employee benefits, and time-off tracking in partnership with the PEO and internal staff
- Partner with leadership to support a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture
- Collaborate with leadership to proactively address employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance concerns, investigations, and employee transitions

Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA preferred
- Demonstrated strong financial planning and analysis skills, with knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, restricted fund accounting, and revenue recognition standards, and experience leading an organization through an audit
- Experience managing organizational growth, operational infrastructure, systems implementation, and process improvement initiatives preferred
- Experience working with cloud-based finance, accounting, payroll/HR, and operational systems, such as QuickBooks Online, ADP, Ramp, Salesforce, and related platforms
Hours
SEA currently operates on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays. As a member of the leadership team, the CFO works outside of traditional business hours as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
$150,000-$170,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include 20 vacation days annually, health insurance, and a 4% 401K matching plan.
