Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Holbrook, NY | Long Island
Industry: Nutraceuticals / Consumer Products / Manufacturing & Distribution
The Company & Opportunity
A highly successful, privately held nutraceutical and consumer products organization is seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team during an exciting period of significant growth. With more than 15 years in the nutraceutical industry, the organization provides a broad portfolio of vitamins, supplements and nutritional products, including softgels, gummies, raw ingredients, stock formulations and custom/private-label solutions. The company serves a diverse and expanding customer base that includes major national retailers, e-commerce businesses, consumer brands, sports nutrition companies, distributors and other industry partners. The organization has experienced exceptional growth, increasing from approximately $10–12 million to $70–80 million in combined annual revenue, and continues to win significant new customers and expand its retail presence.
This growth has created the need to further develop the company's financial infrastructure and bring additional sophistication to the accounting and finance organization.
Reporting directly to the Founder, the CFO will have the opportunity to make an immediate and highly visible impact. This executive will take ownership of the finance organization, enhance financial visibility and controls, and build scalable processes and systems to support the company's continued expansion.
This is an ideal opportunity for a financial executive who enjoys building, improving and creating value within an entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall accounting and finance function and serve as a strategic partner to the Founder.
- Build scalable financial processes, controls and reporting to support continued growth.
- Enhance budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis.
- Develop sophisticated cost accounting, product costing, pricing, margin and profitability analysis.
- Provide greater visibility into profitability by product, customer and sales channel.
- Strengthen controls surrounding inventory, purchasing, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins, control costs and increase operational efficiency.
- Improve working-capital management across inventory, receivables and payables.
- Evaluate existing accounting and operational systems and lead future systems and process improvements.
- Assess, develop and build the accounting and finance team.
- Partner with leadership on major customers, growth opportunities and strategic business decisions.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an accomplished CFO, VP of Finance, Controller or senior finance executive ready to step into a broader CFO position.
Ideal experience includes:
- Financial leadership experience within a rapidly growing, privately held organization.
- Experience in an inventory-intensive environment, ideally consumer products, nutraceuticals, food & beverage, manufacturing, importing or distribution.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory, product costing, pricing and margin analysis.
- Demonstrated success improving financial controls, reporting and business processes.
- Strong cash-flow and working-capital management experience.
- Experience evaluating and improving accounting/ERP systems.
- Ability to develop and build a strong accounting and finance organization.
- Experience partnering directly with founders, owners or entrepreneurial leadership teams.
- A hands-on mentality combined with the ability to operate strategically.
- CPA and/or public accounting experience is a plus but not required.
Why This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a well-established company that is experiencing significant growth rather than an early-stage start-up. The CFO will work directly with an entrepreneurial Founder, have significant visibility across the organization, and play an important role in shaping how the company operates as it continues to scale. For a finance leader who enjoys consumer products, wants to have a tangible impact on a business, and is excited about building the financial infrastructure behind a rapidly growing organization, this is a compelling opportunity.
