Position Overview
The CFO is the senior financial leader responsible for the organization’s financial strategy, integrity, and long-term sustainability.
As a key partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, and the CFO brings together strong financial stewardship, operational excellence, and forward-looking strategy to support Mission Road Ministries through continued growth and innovation.
Leads a Finance Team of 7: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Controller, Payroll.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Executive Partnership
• Serve as a core member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy, planning, and execution
• Provide clear, actionable financial insights to support executive decision-making and Board governance
• Partner with program leadership to align financial planning with organizational priorities and impact goals
Financial Strategy & Planning
• Lead the development of annual budgets, multi-year financial plans, and forecasting models
• Evaluate new programs, partnerships, and growth opportunities through financial modeling and scenario analysis
• Oversee capital planning, investment strategy, and asset management to ensure long-term sustainability
Financial Stewardship & Operations
• Oversee all accounting, budgeting, cash management, banking relationships, and financial reporting functions
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Maintain strong internal controls and continuously improve financial processes and systems
Compliance, Audit & Governance
• Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, regulators, and tax advisors
• Ensure timely completion of the annual audit, Form 990, and all regulatory reporting
• Maintain compliance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, and nonprofit financial best practices
• Support Finance and Audit Committees and prepare materials for Board of Directors
Funding & Regulatory Expertise
• Oversee financial management of diverse funding sources, including Medicaid waivers, government contracts, and philanthropic grants
• Ensure compliance with programmatic and funding-specific financial requirements
Technology & Process Improvement
• Strengthen financial systems, reporting tools, and processes to improve efficiency and transparency
• Evaluate and implement modern tools (including automation and data analytics) to enhance forecasting and decision-making
• Lead change management efforts to support adoption of improved systems and workflows
People Leadership & Culture
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Promote cross-functional partnership and shared ownership of financial performance across departments
First-Year Priorities
• Enhance financial forecasting and multi-year planning capabilities
• Improve visibility into program-level financial performance and cost drivers
• Strengthen financial systems and reporting for scalability and efficiency
• Maintain audit excellence and regulatory compliance
• Partner with leadership to evaluate and support strategic growth initiatives
Qualifications
Experience
• 8–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
• 3–5+ years in a senior leadership role (CFO, VP of Finance, Controller, or similar)
• Experience managing budgets of $10M+ in complex organizational environments
Education & Credentials
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration required
• CPA strongly preferred
• MBA or MPA preferred
Industry Experience (Preferred)
• Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, human services, or IDD-related organizations
• Familiarity with Medicaid, government funding, and grant compliance
