CFO - Family Office / Real Estate
$200-260k plus bonus

Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Chief Financial Officer. The CFO will be the principal’s primary financial resource, responsible for managing and coordinating all financial matters across their personal balance sheets, real estate portfolios, and affiliated business ventures.
The CFO reports directly to the two principals and works in close coordination with their outside advisors, tax preparers, attorneys, lenders, insurance brokers, and third-party property managers. The existing Investment Controller would be a direct report to this position.
Responsibilities
Personal Financial Management
- Prepare and maintain personal financial statements for each principal, including balance sheets, income statements, and net worth summaries
- Coordinate and manage each principal’s overall balance sheet, tracking assets, liabilities, and equity across all holdings
- Liaise with outside tax preparers to ensure timely preparation and filing of all required federal, state, and local tax returns
- Manage cash flow planning and liquidity across personal and investment accounts, including daily treasury management
- Coordinate with attorneys, bankers, insurance brokers, and other outside professionals on financial matters
Real Estate Portfolio – Principals’ Owned Properties
- Gather, record, and consolidate property-level income and expense data from third-party property managers across the principals’ portfolio
- Maintain accurate books and records for all principal-owned properties
- Analyze rental property cash flows and work with third-party property managers to optimize leasing, occupancy, and revenue performance
- Prepare and present periodic financial reports on portfolio performance, including variance analysis and key operating metrics
- Provide ongoing property-level accounting and financial reporting for properties owned directly by the principals
- Liaise with outside tax preparers to ensure timely preparation and filing of all required federal, state, and local tax returns and distribution of K-1’s
Development Projects & Capital Transactions
- Build and maintain financial models for development opportunities, including pro formas, return analyses, and scenario modeling
- Prepare loan packages, draw requests, and supporting financial documentation for construction and permanent financing from third-party lenders
- Manage the financial oversight of properties under construction, including budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting against construction budgets
- Monitor development timelines and flag financial risks or cost variances to the principals
Investment Management
- Track and report on the principals’ active and passive investment portfolios, including real estate partnerships, private equity, and other alternative investments
- Monitor investment performance, distributions, capital calls, and compliance requirements
- Assist in underwriting and evaluating new investment opportunities as directed by the principals
External Manager Support
- Provide day-to-day accounting, bookkeeping, and financial reporting for the Advisors
- Support Advisors management-company reporting, including management fee calculations, operating budgets, internal reporting, and advisor-level financial controls
- Coordinate with the auditors, legal counsel, and other service providers only as needed for Advisors’ management-company responsibilities
Other Business Ventures
- Support accounting, bookkeeping, and financial reporting for the principals’ affiliated business entities and ventures
- Maintain organized financial records and entity-level books across multiple LLCs, partnerships, or other structures
- Assist in structuring and tracking intercompany transactions, loans, and distributions
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred
- 8–10+ years of progressive experience in real estate finance, personal financial management, family office, or a combination thereof
- Demonstrated experience with real estate investment accounting, including rental properties, development projects, and multi-entity structures
- Strong financial modeling skills, including development pro formas and cash flow analysis
- Experience coordinating with third-party property managers, lenders, tax advisors, and legal counsel
- Proficiency with real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, or equivalent) and general ledger platforms (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred
- Prior experience in a family office, high-net-worth individual advisory, or multi-principal environment
- Familiarity with REIT structures, fund-level accounting, or investment manager operations
- Experience supporting construction financing, including draw management and lender reporting
- Working knowledge of trust, partnership, and LLC accounting
