The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leads the Company's Finance function, overseeing financial accounting, controllership, statutory and regulatory reporting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), treasury, capital management, investments, tax, and finance operations.
The CFO provides strategic financial leadership across both the Local Commercial / Consumer and Wholesale Commercial businesses. Given the differing business models, financial processes, risk profiles, and control requirements, the CFO must apply sound judgment and business-specific oversight to ensure effective financial management, governance, and compliance.
The role works closely with Management, business leaders, internal stakeholders, and APAC Regional Headquarters to achieve the Company's strategic and financial objectives while ensuring adherence to all regulatory and internal requirements.
This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer, APAC and matrix to to CEO, Sompo Singapore.
Key Responsibilities
Business Oversight
- Provide financial leadership across the Local Commercial / Consumer and Wholesale Commercial businesses.
- Understand and manage the unique business models, operating practices, risks, and control requirements of each business.
- Establish appropriate financial processes, controls, reporting frameworks, and governance standards.
- Identify, assess, escalate, and manage financial, operational, regulatory, and control risks.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Lead annual planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management processes.
- Monitor business performance against budgets, forecasts, prior-year results, and strategic objectives.
- Deliver financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support business initiatives, investments, and growth opportunities.
- Advise Management and the Board on profitability, growth, expense management, capital utilization, and financial sustainability.
Financial Accounting, Controllership & Reporting
- Oversee accounting systems, general ledger, financial close processes, and financial reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate statutory reporting, regulatory submissions, tax filings, management reporting, and Group reporting.
- Manage internal and external audits and oversee remediation of audit findings.
- Maintain strong governance, documentation, and approval processes for complex transactions.
Treasury & Capital Management
- Manage liquidity, cash flow, banking relationships, and funding requirements.
- Optimize investment of surplus funds within approved risk and regulatory limits.
- Lead capital planning and monitor solvency and regulatory capital requirements.
Investment Management
- Develop investment strategies aligned with business objectives, risk appetite, liquidity requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Monitor investment performance, market risks, compliance with investment guidelines, and external asset managers.
- Oversee investment operations, reporting, governance, and reconciliations.
Finance Operations & Internal Controls
- Oversee credit control and receivables management to improve cash collection and reduce credit risk.
- Maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and finance procedures.
- Drive process simplification, standardization, and automation to improve efficiency.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and internal policy requirements.
- Maintain robust financial governance, delegated authorities, and escalation processes.
- Report significant financial risks, control issues, and key judgments to the appropriate governance bodies.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, develop, and maintain a high-performing finance team.
- Build strong relationships with Management, the Board, APAC Regional Headquarters, auditors, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
Decision-Making & Accountability
- Act as the principal financial adviser to Management.
- Provide recommendations on financial, capital, regulatory, risk, and control matters.
- Approve decisions within delegated authority and escalate matters as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- 15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, with significant experience within the General Insurance industry.
- Strong knowledge of Singapore insurance regulatory requirements and experience engaging with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
- Demonstrated success operating within complex, matrixed, multinational organizations.
- Proven ability to influence senior executives, Boards, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
- Strong people leadership capabilities with experience leading sizable, high-performing teams.
