The Opportunity

A dynamic, mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a strategic, hands-on Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team and help guide the organization through its next phase of growth and development.

This is an opportunity for a sophisticated nonprofit finance leader to play a true strategic role, partnering with the CEO and senior leadership team while overseeing the organization’s financial operations, reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial strategy.

A Critical Requirement

Nonprofit experience is required. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience managing the financial operations of a nonprofit organization with multiple and diverse revenue streams.

This includes experience navigating and integrating revenue from sources such as government contracts, Medicaid/healthcare reimbursement, grants, fee-for-service programs, and private philanthropic support.

The ability to understand the unique financial challenges of a nonprofit environment — including restricted funding, contract compliance, reimbursement cycles, cash flow, and program-level financial performance — is essential.

What You’ll Do

💰 Financial Strategy & Leadership

Develop and execute financial strategies that support the organization’s mission, growth, sustainability, and long-term goals.

📊 Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, cash-flow management, and ongoing financial analysis.

🏛️ Government & Grant Funding

Oversee complex government contracts, grants, restricted funding, reimbursement streams, and related compliance requirements.

📈 Financial Reporting

Provide timely, accurate, and meaningful financial reporting to the CEO, Board of Directors, finance committee, and senior leadership.

🔎 Audit & Compliance

Oversee annual audits, regulatory compliance, internal controls, financial policies, and risk management.

👥 Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while strengthening systems, processes, accountability, and organizational capacity.

🤝 Executive Partnership

Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and executive team, translating financial information into actionable business decisions.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

Demonstrated nonprofit finance leadership experience
Proven experience managing multiple and diverse nonprofit revenue streams
Experience with government contracts, grants, Medicaid/healthcare reimbursement, and philanthropic funding
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and cash-flow management
Experience overseeing audits, compliance, internal controls, and financial reporting
Experience presenting financial information to a CEO, executive leadership team, and Board
Strong leadership and team-development skills
The ability to move beyond traditional accounting and serve as a strategic business partner
Excellent communication skills and the ability to make complex financial information understandable to non-financial stakeholders

🎓 A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An advanced degree and/or CPA is strongly preferred.

The Ideal Candidate

This role is particularly well suited to a Controller, VP of Finance, Finance Director, Deputy CFO, or current CFO who has substantial nonprofit experience and is ready to take on greater strategic responsibility.

Compensation

💰 $150,000–$160,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
