Manning Personnel Group, Inc., is working with a growing Construction client in the Charlton, MA area as they are actively seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join their team.
Managing a small staff and reporting to the President/CEO, the CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, developing financial strategies, and providing leadership in setting the company’s financial direction. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting, knowledge of project-based financial management, and the ability to guide business decisions through clear, data-driven insights.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop long-term financial strategies aligned with the company’s business goals and growth objectives.
- Prepare short- and long-range forecasts, budgets, and financial models to support strategic decision-making.
- Partner with executive leadership to identify opportunities for cost management, revenue growth, and financial stability.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process, ensuring accurate forecasting of revenues, costs, and resource requirements.
- Provide ongoing budget-to-actual analysis, recommending corrective actions to meet financial targets.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Supervise the accounting team in maintaining accurate general ledgers, job costing, and timely closing of financial statements.
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and presentations to company leadership and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project managers to track and analyze project costs, profitability, and progress.
- Monitor change orders, billing, and collections to ensure a healthy cash flow and profitability on each project.
- Implement robust internal controls to manage risk and maintain accurate project accounting records.
- Oversee cash flow planning and ensure that funds are available as needed for day-to-day operations, payroll, and project expenses.
- Manage banking relationships, including lines of credit, loans, and other financing tools.
- Optimize working capital through strong management of payables, receivables, and inventory.
- Identify financial and operational risks and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with executive leadership.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings, licensing, and workers compensation.
- Coordinate audits with external auditors and regulators, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, project management, and other departments to align financial goals with business initiatives.
- Serve as a key advisor on major financial decisions, providing guidance to the CEO and other executives.
- Engage with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to negotiate contracts and optimize commercial terms.
- Leverage financial data to support new business opportunities, M&A activities, and strategic partnerships.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within the construction, engineering, or project-based industry.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks, or similar). Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with financial modeling and data analysis.
- Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and project-based financial management.
