Summary Description
The CFO is responsible for both day-to-day general accounting duties and strategic financial management of the organization, as well as compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations and accounting principles to protect the organization. Also, the CFO ensures the continued financial viability of the organization, the integrity of the financial policies, procedures, systems, and reporting. The CFO reports to the CEO and serves as an integral member of the management team in overseeing the strategic plan. The CFO will be responsible for stewarding emerging social enterprises that support the overall financial growth and sustainability of the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Management and oversight of accounting responsibilities across the organization inclusive of accounts payable, accounts receivable, wages and allocation and payroll.
- Train and/or support staff in the use of GAAP and Sage accounting software.
- Work closely with COO in oversight of grants and contracts management inclusive of accounting and compliance.
- Establish finance operational strategies in support of the strategic plan by evaluating trends; establish critical measurements; design systems; accumulate resources; resolve problems; and implement change.
- Develop organization prospects by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities; analyze organization operations; identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement; and accumulate capital to fund expansion.
- Produce timely and accurate financial reports for budget managers, C-Suite discussions and board meetings.
- Work closely with the C-Suite to identify opportunities and implement budgeting initiatives to support yearly growth in accordance with the strategic plan.
- In partnership with C-Suite and other subject matter experts, prepare feasibility plans that inform strategic plans.
- Responsible for writing the company’s annual financial report for external stakeholders and potential investors to review.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Supervisory responsibilities: plan, assign, support and direct the work of finance team; deliver performance reviews and disciplinary action; make hire and termination decisions; provide employee training and coaching; approve schedule/timecard/time off requests.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Employee may be assigned additional or alternate duties as organizational needs require.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability typically required.
- Master’s Degree required (e.g. Business Administration, Accounting, and/or Finance).
- CPA/CMA preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in accounting and financial management practices.
- Preferred minimum of 5+ years of experience in managing and growing a company successfully in a CFO role.
- Nonprofit accounting and management experience required.
- Proficient in non-profit accounting, fund accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Uniform Administrative Requirements, and Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
- Proficient in Sage Intacct accounting software (or comparable) and ability to ensure software is used at maximum capacity to support accounting needs.
- Healthcare management, claims and billing experience preferred.

- Strong communication skills: ability to exercise diplomacy, gather information from others, make inquiries and synthesize information; ability to convey information and explain or discuss organizational policy and procedure with others in person or by telephone.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
- Knowledge in Asana and Salesforce is a plus.
- Experience in providing mentorship and leadership for professional growth.
- Ability to work independently, exercise mature professional judgment and use discretion.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekend days.
