The Opportunity:
Our client, a publicly listed battery materials company with a growing global footprint, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join their executive leadership team. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s financial strategy, capital markets activity, governance framework, and long-term value creation agenda.
This is a highly strategic leadership role suited to an experienced finance executive with deep exposure to the mining, resources, or industrial sectors. The successful candidate will bring strong capital markets expertise, global financial leadership experience, and the ability to partner closely with the Board, investors, and executive leadership as the organization continues to scale.
The role offers flexibility in location, with a preference for candidates based in Toronto, London or South Africa and will involve regular international travel.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Partner with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Executive Leadership Team to shape and execute the company’s long-term strategic and financial plan
- Develop and lead the overall financial strategy, including capital structure, funding plans, and long-term financial planning
- Build and maintain robust financial models, forecasts, and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making
- Establish and monitor key financial performance metrics aligned with corporate objectives
- Lead corporate finance initiatives including mergers & acquisitions, restructuring, and strategic investment opportunities
- Oversee the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, securities regulations, and public company disclosure requirements
- Lead treasury operations including liquidity planning, cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and investment strategy
- Manage debt facilities, capital allocation, and equity or debt financing initiatives
- Maintain strong relationships with banks, lenders, investors, and capital markets stakeholders
- Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment and enterprise financial risk management framework
- Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors and regulatory bodies
- Oversee tax compliance, tax structuring, and insurance programs across multiple jurisdictions
- Provide executive oversight for financial systems, enterprise IT governance, and cybersecurity alignment
- Support payroll governance, compensation programs, and HR-related financial reporting requirements
- Oversee procurement, logistics, and contract management processes to ensure strong commercial controls and favorable terms
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA and/or MBA preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in an international finance role within the mining or resources sector, including at least 2 years in a senior financial leadership role such as Group CFO or Divisional CFO
- Strong knowledge of public company financial reporting, governance, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated expertise in treasury, capital planning, funding strategy, and financial risk management
- Experience with valuation, mergers & acquisitions, restructuring, and strategic corporate finance initiatives
- Exposure to tax structuring, legal compliance, and multi-jurisdictional financial operations
- Familiarity with enterprise systems, financial systems governance, and IT oversight
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to operate effectively at the Board and investor level
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and strategic thinking skills
- High level of integrity, sound judgment, and executive maturity

The company offers a competitive executive compensation package, including:
- Market-competitive base salary - $300,000 +
- Annual bonus with a target of approximately 75% of base salary (with upside to 100%)
- Long-term equity incentives targeting 100% of base salary (with upside to 150%)
