About Community Catalyst
Community Catalyst is a leading national nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to advancing health equity and justice. With a bold strategic vision and a deep commitment to systems change, we are transforming how health policy, philanthropy, and community power shape the health system. As we execute our strategic plan, we are seeking a Chief Revenue Officer to architect and lead an ambitious and integrated revenue growth strategy that aligns with our values and drives sustainable impact.
Position Summary
The Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) will lead the next era of revenue growth for Community Catalyst—driving strategy, relationships, and innovation to grow our budget from $17M to $30M within 2–3 years, and from $30M to $50M by year six. The CRO will build a modern, mission-aligned revenue model that centers equity, includes traditional and nontraditional funding streams, and sustains long-term unrestricted capital through a “fund the fund” approach.
As a member of the Executive Team, the CRO will serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and Board and lead a cross-functional team responsible for foundation relations, major donor fundraising, venture philanthropy, impact investing partnerships, digital and recurring giving, and catalytic capital formation.
What You Will Help Us Build
A national movement capitalized for scale, able to say "no" to misaligned funding and "yes" to bold, community-driven innovation.
A resilient revenue model centered on equity, impact, and strategic independence.
A community of funders, donors, and allies who see Community Catalyst as essential infrastructure for health justice.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Revenue Growth
Design and execute a multi-year revenue growth strategy with staged targets: $30M (2–3 years) and $50M (5–6 years).
Integrate diversified funding sources including traditional philanthropy, venture philanthropy, catalytic capital, corporate partnerships, and government grants.
Develop and launch a “Justice Investment Fund” (a “fund the fund” model) to attract unrestricted, pooled, or flexible multiyear capital.
Leverage data, advanced analytics, and intelligence systems (including AI-driven tools) to generate actionable insights that inform strategic decision-making and ensure alignment across all revenue initiatives.
Donor and Funder Engagement
Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major philanthropic institutions, family foundations, and donor collaboratives aligned with racial equity, health justice, and systems change.
Guide the development of strategic pitches, investment cases, and narrative materials that clearly articulate Community Catalyst’s unique role and impact.
Facilitate funder briefings, donor learning sessions, and high-impact cultivation events with the CEO and Board.
New Business Development and Venture Philanthropy
Identify and secure large-scale funding through innovative vehicles including donor-advised funds, venture philanthropy initiatives, and social impact coalitions.
Leverage cross-sector partnerships (healthcare, finance, policy) to open new lines of investment or co-created initiatives with mutual benefit.
Structure co-investment or partnership opportunities to fund the scaling of Community Catalyst’s six Core Initiatives.
Impact Investing and Capital Strategy
Develop philanthropic and investment-aligned vehicles to support capital aggregation from high-net-worth individuals (HNWI), family offices, and progressive finance entities.
Partner with legal and finance experts to design compliant instruments for mission-aligned, non-dilutive investments.
Position Community Catalyst as a philanthropic advisor and thought leader on equitable investment in health systems transformation.
Team Leadership and Organizational Development
Lead, grow, and inspire a diverse, multidisciplinary revenue team; coach directors and build leadership pipelines across Development, Digital, and Strategic Partnerships.
Implement a performance system for tracking KPIs, ROI, ROM, donor lifecycle health, and team accountability.
Align revenue operations with Finance, Communications, Programs and Policy to ensure synchronized planning, forecasting, and execution.
