About the Role
A family office led by a Principal/entrepreneur managing multiple entities and investments is seeking a CFO to bring both accounting expertise and strong business acumen to his team.
The CFO will serve as a trusted resource to the Principal by helping in an overall financial, managerial, HR and compliance role. The CFO will do more than finances and accounting. The CFO will provide daily support to portfolio entities including operations consulting, consulting on personnel, and leading the financial direction of the entities. The CFO will be a problem solver willing to help as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Manage the day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable and receivable
- Oversee account reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy of financial records
- Manage cash flow and cash availability needs across multiple entities
- Manage banking relationships and weekly bill pay
- Oversee multiple Quickbooks Online entities
- Handle monthly closes and produce quarterly financial statements for Principal
- Provide ad hoc reporting as needed and deliver helpful KPIs
- Oversee weekly payroll and benefits administration
- Perform monthly sales tax filing and remittance for one portfolio entity
- Coordinate with tax CPA firm for tax work as needed
- Monitor insurance needs and coordinate as needed
- Coordinate property tax payments and records for numerous land holdings
Portfolio Entity Operations
- Assist Principal and entity General Manager with successfully running portfolio entity by being the main liaison for all financial, business and software related aspects of the portfolio entity
- Provide support for marketing, hiring, and overall operational effectiveness and efficiency
- Ensure portfolio entity ERP software system remains up to date with accurate data input and reporting
- Occasional day trips to visit portfolio entities and provide consulting; typically 2-3 times per month
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with 2+ years in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and compliance standards
- Proficiency with accounting software in general and ability to use or learn Quickbooks Online
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to take initiative & ownership; must be willing to work well with little to no supervision and with a small team
