Job Overview
Malin Leaders, a leadership advisory and executive search firm, has been retained to conduct a search for a Chief Financial Officer. Our client is an independent, 501(c)(3) affiliated with a highly ranked, public university located in Southwest Virginia.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and working closely with the Foundation’s Executive Board, the CFO will serve as both a strategic business partner and a hands-on financial leader. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a highly respected organization at a time of momentum and growth—one that combines the professional sophistication of an investment house with the heart of a mission-driven nonprofit.
The Foundation manages more than $100 million in assets supporting scholarships, faculty research, and capital initiatives for the affiliated university. Its independence from the University offers an environment of autonomy and strategic impact while maintaining a strong collaborative relationship with University leadership.
We are seeking a technically strong and operationally skilled finance executive who brings:
- Expertise in fund and endowment accounting within a nonprofit, professional services or higher education setting.
- Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups, data reconciliation);
- Working knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge or similar accounting software.
- Exceptional organizational and follow-through abilities, balancing multiple priorities across 1,600+ funds; and
- The ability to build relationships across donors, trustees, auditors, and University stakeholders.
- CPA required
If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity—or if you know a colleague whose background might align—we would welcome a confidential conversation.
