Radford University Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the mission and strategic priorities of Radford University. We manage and steward philanthropic gifts, oversee endowment and investment assets, and provide financial support for scholarships, academic programs, faculty initiatives, and capital projects. With a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and mission-driven impact, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead our financial operations into the future.

Position Overview:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for the strategic management of the Foundation’s financial planning, reporting, and operations. The CFO will lead all aspects of financial strategy, budgeting, investments, compliance, risk management, and audit functions. This individual will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, University partners, and external stakeholders to ensure fiscal integrity and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and execute all financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
Perform and oversee general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, journal entries, month-end and year-end closings, and preparation of financial statements.
Serve as the primary accountant for the organization, ensuring accuracy and integrity of all financial data; work closely with the Staff Accountant who manages accounts payable.
Oversee the management and performance of the Foundation’s investment portfolio; serve as liaison to investment advisors and the Investment Committee.
Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit standards.
Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, including preparation of workpapers and direct engagement with auditors.
Provide timely, accurate financial reports and strategic insights to the CEO, Board of Directors, and University Leadership.
Supervise and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Support fundraising and development efforts through budget modeling, fund accounting, and donor stewardship reporting.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and partner with University leadership on joint initiatives.
Represent the Foundation at Foundation and University events and public functions, cultivating relationships with key stakeholders and enhancing the visibility and reputation of the Foundation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
CPA certification or Master’s degree required.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally in public accounting and/or a nonprofit, higher education, or foundation environment.
Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, investment management, and nonprofit accounting.
Experience working with boards, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Knowledge of fund accounting, endowment management, and financial systems such as Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT.
