Role Overview
An established, AI-driven civic engagement platform is entering a significant scaling phase and seeking its first true CFO to professionalize operations and drive company-wide financial discipline. This organization serves hundreds of public-sector clients across major metro areas and is backed by well-known institutional investors. The CFO will operate as both a strategic financial leader and an operational integrator, partnering closely with the CEO to strengthen infrastructure, elevate execution, and position the company for long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all core finance functions including budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, audits, reporting, and cash management
- Implement financial discipline, operational rigor, and cross-functional accountability
- Build scalable operating systems to support long-term growth and organizational maturity
- Lead and develop the current finance team, including senior finance and accounting staff
- Oversee legal operations and manage external counsel relationships
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO on planning, resource allocation, and long-range financial strategy
- Drive improved margins, cost controls, and operational efficiency
- Manage board communication, investor relations, and future fundraising or strategic transactions
- Potentially oversee HR, business operations, or revenue operations depending on experience.
Education & Qualifications
- 10+ years of senior finance leadership experience in SaaS, technology, or private-equity-backed environments
- Prior experience as a CFO or SVP of Finance with enterprise-level exposure
- Demonstrated success building or repairing financial and operational infrastructure
- Strong operational orientation beyond traditional finance duties
- Experience in turnaround, recovery, or growth re-acceleration environments
- Ability to influence executive peers and drive accountability across teams
- Advanced modeling, forecasting, and scenario-planning skills
- Executive-level communication abilities with board and investor stakeholders
Preferred Experience
- Experience within private equity portfolio environments
- Deep SaaS expertise including ARR and subscription revenue economics
- Exposure to multi-national operations
- Prior oversight of Legal, HR, or Business Operations
- Based in New York City or able to work hybrid on-site
