With the upcoming retirement of our Financial Controller, we are seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will assume responsibility for the existing accounting team and administration functions while serving as a trusted financial advisior to ownership.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for the full scope of financial management, accounting operations, and administrative oversight for approximately 50 business entities, including residential and commercial rental properties, joint ventures, partnerships, and holding companies.
This is a working CFO role requiring deep technical accounting expertise, strong operational discipline, and the ability to partner with ownership on strategic planning, risk management, and long-term value creation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as the senior financial leader and trusted advisor to ownership and executive leadership
- Provide strategic financial insight, forecasting, and scenario analysis to support decision-making
- Lead long-term financial planning, budgeting, and capital allocation
- Oversee banking relationships, financing structures, and lender reporting
- Identify financial risks and opportunities across the portfolio
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all full-cycle accounting and administrative functions for multiple entities
- Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Oversee cash flow management, forecasting, and treasury functions
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare year-end working papers and coordinate with external CPA firms for audits and financial reporting
Reporting, Compliance & Taxation
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies
- Oversee payroll, tax filings, and government remittances (including GST and WCB)
- Prepare quarterly and annual GST filings
- Ensure all statutory and regulatory obligations are met across entities
Property, Lease & Corporate Administration
- Oversee financial aspects of residential and commercial property operations
- Read and interpret commercial leases; prepare lease summaries and financial schedules
- Oversee CAM budgeting and annual CAM reconciliations
- Coordinate execution of corporate, financing, and banking documentation
- Ensure compliance with service, supply, and financing contracts
- Coordinate annual property appraisals for financing and insurance purposes
Systems, Processes & Technology
- Full oversight of financial systems
- Co-Lead transition from Yardi Breeze Premiere to Rent Manager with VP Operations
- Lead process improvement initiatives and documentation of key financial procedures
- Ensure integrity, efficiency, and scalability of financial systems and reporting
- Liaise with external IT consultants regarding financial systems and network needs
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA designation required
- Minimum 5–10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
- Strong background in residential and commercial property accounting
- Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple legal entities
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- Proven supervisory and leadership capabilities
