Key details:
Flagship location, Inglewood Park Cemetery, has been a Southern California institution for over 120 years. We predate the founding of Inglewood, and boast nearly 300 acres of green space, a certified arboretum, and numerous historic buildings.
We operate two other cemeteries, Park Lawn in Commerce and Roosevelt Memorial Park in Gardena.
We are the sole shareholders of a for-profit company that operates two mortuaries in the Coachella Valley and a pre-need funeral insurance sales agency. Combined, we have approximately three hundred employees.
Financial highlights:
Annual sales of approximately $60 million; Assets of over $180 million; no material debt; an additional $190 million of assets in our endowment care funds and other trust accounts.
We have a very active mausoleum construction program to extend the life of the cemeteries and build the assets in the endowment care funds.
Position Summary:
As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Chief Financial Officer will report to the Chief Executive Officer and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the company. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, job costing, legal, property management, transaction analysis, negotiations, partnership compliance, and private and institutional financing.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Financial Leadership:
- Drive the formulation and continuous assessment of the organization’s financial goals.
- Evaluate and advise on the financial impact of long-range planning and the introduction of new strategies.
- Provide executive management with insights into the financial implications of business activities and offer recommendations for enhanced financial performance.
Budgeting and Financial Oversight:
- Oversee the development, implementation, and control of budgets across all departments.
- Collaborate with departmental heads to create operating and program budgets for CEO and Board review and approval.
Risk Management:
- Ensure effective enterprise Finance policies and procedures (including SOPs) and internal controls are established and maintained.
- Maintain positive relationships with regulators and ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Ensure compliance with tax code.
Financial Accounting, Analysis and Reporting:
- Manage comprehensive financial forecasting, reporting, and consolidation processes.
- Produce budget performance reports and analysis for monthly presentations to departmental heads and the Board of Directors.
- Manage audit process and ensure compliance with GAAP. Maintain an effective relationship with auditors and the Audit Committee.
Interdepartmental Collaboration:
- Interface with outside organizations and manage relationships with outside auditors and professional service providers.
- Assist departmental heads in the interpretation and analysis of operating reports.
External Collaboration:
- Interface with outside vendors, including auditors, law firms, consultants, IT vendors, and suppliers.
- Effectively represent the institution to external parties, including the community and elected officials.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance required
- Advanced degree (MBA) and (CPA) preferred
Minimum Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience as a CFO, Controller, or Finance Manager/Director, with proven capabilities in managing the full spectrum of financial and administrative functions.
- Strong orientation towards employing state-of-the-art internal systems to provide key metrics for the organization in a timely and accurate manner.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary and diverse team environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proven expertise in a growth-oriented environment and adaptability to change.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to achieve high impact in an unstructured environment.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in PC systems (Windows environment) with advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Proficiency with NetSuite and Dayforce preferred.
- Experience in change management and systems implementation preferred.

Compensation:
- The annual base salary range for this position is $275,000 – $325,000, with final compensation determined based on experience, credentials, and overall fit.
- Position is bonus eligible, based on individual and company performance.
