PE-Backed Specialty Food Manufacturer
We are supporting a private-equity-backed specialty food manufacturing business in Massachusetts on the appointment of a Chief Financial Officer.
The company operates a USDA regulated manufacturing environment, producing value-added / specialty food products sold across retail and foodservice channels. Following a recent acquisition, the business is entering a new phase of professionalisation and growth.
This is a highly visible role, partnering closely with the CEO and PE sponsor to help build a scalable, data-driven finance function and deliver value creation initiatives.
The Role
The CFO will take full ownership of the finance function, combining strategic leadership with hands-on operational execution. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead financial strategy, reporting, FP&A, budgeting, and forecasting
- Partner with the CEO and Board on value creation planning and execution
- Drive margin improvement through plant economics, cost control, and pricing analysis
- Strengthen working capital management, inventory controls, and cash flow visibility
- Build scalable reporting, KPIs, and financial infrastructure to support growth
- Support M&A activity including diligence, integration, and post-close performance tracking
- Develop and lead a high-performing finance team
The Ideal Background
We are seeking a hands-on, operator-style CFO with experience in:
- Food manufacturing, specialty foods, protein, prepared foods, or adjacent manufacturing environments
- PE-backed or investor-led businesses (mid-market)
- Operationally complex environments (manufacturing, plant-based, or multi-site)
- Leading finance through periods of transformation, growth, or professionalisation
- CPA / CMA preferred
