About the Company
This is a first CFO appointment in a growing, privately owned investment business. It will suit a senior finance leader who is already operating at, or very close to, CFO level in practice, but hasn’t yet held the title. The firm works with high-net-worth families across investment management, private equity, tax and advisory. It operates through a number of legal entities, including FCA-regulated businesses, and has been built deliberately around quality, trust and long-term relationships rather than rapid growth. As the business has evolved, the Board is now appointing its first permanent CFO.
About the Role
You’ll be the senior finance lead to the CEO, Board and shareholders. That means owning the numbers, setting the tone around financial discipline, and providing clear, calm insight to support decisions as the Group continues to develop. The scope of the role is already broad, covering financial control, planning, performance, acquisition activity and governance. It is expected to grow further over time as the business becomes more complex. This is a hands-on role in a relatively small organisation. You’ll need to be comfortable getting into the detail while also lifting your head to think both strategically and commercially.
Responsibilities
- You’ll take overall responsibility for financial management, reporting and control across the Group.
- You’ll own budgeting, forecasting and cashflow, produce clear management information, and build financial models to support growth and investment decisions.
- You’ll provide commercial insight around performance, profitability and pricing, and act as the internal finance lead on acquisitions and transactions, working closely with external advisers.
- You’ll also take responsibility for financial governance, statutory reporting and audit, including supporting the Group’s FCA-regulated entities.
Qualifications
You’ll be a professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience in a multi-entity environment. Exposure to regulated or compliance-led businesses and involvement in transactions or growth phases would be helpful. More than anything, this role requires sound judgement, discretion and a steady approach in a privately owned setting.
Required Skills
- Experience in a multi-entity environment.
- Exposure to regulated or compliance-led businesses.
- Involvement in transactions or growth phases.
- Sound judgement and discretion.
Preferred Skills
- Experience as a Senior Financial Controller, Group FC, Head of Finance or similar.
- Comfortable working directly with founders or a small Board.
- Ability to operate without layers of structure around you.
- Experience dealing with advisers while retaining ownership internally.
Pay range and compensation package
The salary reflects the fact that this is a first CFO appointment in a growing business rather than a fully scaled CFO role. It is complemented by a bonus and the opportunity to participate in longer-term value creation as the business develops.
