The role
Part of the Business Services and Compliance directorate, the Chief Financial Officer is an influential and strategic role at Migrant Help. You will oversee financial operations across the group, ensuring robust controls, insightful reporting and efficient systems, supporting financial sustainability and resilience. You will be instrumental in evaluating business decisions, managing relationships with key partners, and driving continuous improvement across processes. With gravitas and credibility, the CFO will challenge constructively, foster cross-functional collaboration, and contribute to our long-term success as a trusted and forward-thinking partner.

Role responsibilities
Strategic
- Leading in partnership with the CEOs, Senior Leadership and the boards of both Migrant Help and Clear Voice, to successfully develop, implement and monitor the organisational strategic plans.
- Creating, developing and implementing the respective Business Services & Compliance strategies, along with the CEOs for Migrant Help and Clear Voice.
- Along with Leadership, creating a culture which embodies the organisational values, strategic objectives and purpose of the respective organisations.
- Contributing to the overall success of the organisation in accordance with Migrant Help and Clear Voice’s aims and objectives.
- Working with CEO and senior leadership, align financial planning with strategic goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align priorities and provide appropriate and timely support for service delivery.
Leadership
- This role encompasses leadership in Finance, Compliance and Risk, Commercial and Legal, and governance.
- Overseeing finance and governance structures, systems and processes, so that they remain effective and appropriate to the size and nature of the work of Migrant Help and its subsidiary.
- Providing excellent stewardship of Migrant Help’s resources, to deliver value for money in areas under the postholder’s control and to guide and advise colleagues across the organisation to achieve the same.
- Working across leadership to provide effective governance in line with charity and legal requirements and best practice.
- Providing an inspirational leadership presence, visible and accessible throughout the organisation, through site visits, conferences, written and verbal communications, and various stakeholder forum, modelling compassionate, strong and fair leadership.
- Participating at Board, Committee, Leadership and Management meetings as needed to achieve the governance and leadership responsibilities of the role.
- Any other ad hoc duties as deemed reasonable by the Chief Executive Officer and Board.
Operational
- Leading an expert team to provide advice and guidance on legal, commercial, financial, compliance and governance matters, with channels for seeking external advice, where appropriate.
- Supporting workforce planning efforts to align talent needs with current and future business priorities.
- Overseeing financial management, planning, budgeting, reporting, audit processes and compliance with UK Charities and companies reporting obligations, financial regulations, funding reporting requirements and internal policies.
- Supporting the maintenance of reserves in alignment with our reserves policy, through monitoring, forecasting and timely reporting to leadership and the boards.
- Leading banking and treasury management with appropriate policy, governance, risk assessment and reporting.
- Collaborating with the Technology, Innovation and Insight function to design, implement and optimise core systems to build-in appropriate data protection and cyber-security controls and leading the selection, development and use of appropriate technology systems to support the Business Services and Compliance Effectiveness function.
- Commissioning services, projects or activity that supports the delivery of Business Services & Compliance objectives.
- Maintaining a clear understanding of and providing or sourcing up-to-date knowledge of the legal framework and best practice within the scope of Business Services and Compliance.
- Line management of senior managers within the Business Services and Compliance function to deliver high quality leadership, robust risk management and excellent service delivery.
Growth & Change
- Driving continuous improvement throughout the organisation through your impact on people, resources, quality and sustainability.
- Working closely with the CEOs and leadership of Migrant Help and Clear Voice, directing, developing and implementing effective strategies for transformation within the organisations.
- Developing senior and future leaders and maintaining a succession planning strategy for the senior leaders across the organisations.
- Support activity to promote sustainability and the achievement of social value in our work.
Engagement
- Managing excellent relationships with stakeholders.
- Maintaining and enhancing the reputation of Migrant Help and Clear Voice by representing the organisation internally and externally.
- Promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, working with the EDI lead to embed these values within our culture and monitor our effectiveness at living these values.
- Encouraging and enabling working with clients through our Lived Experience Advisory Panels to coproduce services.
The experience and skills you need
- Demonstrable proven experience in senior finance leadership role (e.g. CFO, FD) in a fast-growing, people focussed organisation, along with leadership of other functional support service areas, such as IT, Commercial, Quality or Facilities.
- Demonstrable creative approach to development, implementation and evaluation of finance and business support services strategy.
- Understanding digital service development and delivery, with experience in finance system transformation, achieving efficiency, data-driven decision-making and scalability.
- Ability to understand, evaluate and advocate effective and persuasive strategies, contributing to the wider direction of the organisation.
- Excellent people leadership, coaching and team-building skills, able to help drive best performance across individuals and teams and foster a culture of collaboration and high performance.
