Having successfully closed Pre-Series A funding, SustLabs is entering a critical phase focused on strengthening financial foundations, scaling operations, and preparing for a Series A fundraise.
We are seeking a Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the company’s financial strategy and partner closely with the CEO, Founders, and Board.
Role Overview
The Fractional CFO will be a core member of the leadership team, responsible for driving financial strategy, governance, and operational discipline. This role requires a balance of hands-on execution and strategic leadership, ensuring the company is investor-ready and positioned for scale.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute the company’s financial strategy aligned with growth objectives
- Act as a strategic advisor to the CEO, leadership team, and Board
- Establish strong financial discipline and accountability
2. Financial Planning, Forecasting & Runway Management
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Manage cash flow, burn rate, and runway
- Lead scenario planning for hiring, product investment, and expansion
3. Fundraising & Investor Relations
- Lead financial preparation for the Series A fundraising process
- Build investor-ready financial models, metrics, and narratives
- Manage investor reporting, Board decks, and financial updates
- Support due diligence, valuation discussions, and term sheet reviews
4. Accounting, Controls & Compliance
- Oversee accounting operations, monthly closes, and financial reporting
- Establish internal controls, financial policies, and approval workflows
- Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements
- Manage relationships with auditors, accountants, legal, and tax advisors
5. Unit Economics & Business Performance
- Define and track unit economics (CAC, LTV, gross margin, contribution margin)
- Partner with Sales, Product, and Operations to improve efficiency and margins
- Drive pricing strategy, cost optimization, and financial insights
6. Systems, Processes & Team Building
- Implement scalable finance systems, tools, and dashboards
- Build and lead the finance function (FP&A, accounting, compliance)
- Prepare the organization for Series A and post-Series A scale
Required Qualifications
12–18+ years of experience in finance with senior leadership exposure
Prior experience as CFO or Finance Head at an early-stage or growth-stage startup
- Proven track record supporting Pre-Series A → Series A transitions
- Strong expertise in fundraising, financial modeling, and investor relations
- Deep understanding of startup finance, controls, and VC expectations
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with venture capital and institutional investors
- Familiarity with SaaS or tech-enabled business models
- Experience scaling finance teams and systems
