Austin, TX is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to join our Executive team! The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the senior executive responsible for LifeWorks’ enterprise-wide financial strategy, fiscal stewardship, and long-term fiscal sustainability. The CFO provides strategic leadership across all financial and fiscal functions, ensuring the organization’s resources are aligned with mission impact, operational efficiency, and long-term organizational health. The CFO partners closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Governors to translate organizational priorities into sound financial strategy and actionable plans. This role ensures strong financial controls and organizational compliance, supporting efficient operations while maintaining adherence to regulatory, contractual, and fiduciary requirements.
This
full time, exempt position earns a competitive rate ranging from $160,479.44-$175.369.29 depending upon experience. Benefits are also included, which consist of 24 PTO days per year (accrued); 11 paid holidays per year; a premium-free employee medical plan with $100 per month HSA contribution (plus other affordable employee or family medical, dental, and vision options!); a retirement savings plan with 50% match on the first 6% of contributions, and much more!
Responsibilities
- Financial strategy, stewardship, & operations:
- Leads LifeWorks’ financial strategy, including annual and capital budgeting, multi-year financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling to assess funding sustainability, contract performance, and financial risk.
- Oversees finance and accounting operations, including financial reporting, audits, tax filings, cash management, indirect rate proposals, and financial systems.
- Guides cash flow management, reserves policy, and investment strategy to support long-term sustainability.
- Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, funder, and regulatory requirements.
- Establishes and maintains strong internal controls, financial policies, and systems to safeguard organizational assets, ensure operational efficiency, and support organizational compliance.
- Coordinates with Human Resources on compensation changes, payroll timekeeping, and benefits deductions.
- Oversees treasury and banking functions, including cash controls, banking relationships, authorized signatory structures, and any debt, or lines of credit, in accordance with Board-approved policies.
- Serves as a senior financial representative of LifeWorks, building strong relationships with auditors, regulators, funders, financial institutions, and external partners.
- Executive and board financial leadership:
- Acts as a trusted thought partner to the CEO, providing financial and fiscal insight to support organizational growth, sustainability, innovation, and risk management.
- Serves as staff lead to the Finance Committee of the Board of Governors, advising the Board on financial performance, trends, risks, policies, and strategic investment decisions.
- Prepares and delivers clear and data-driven financial reporting to support governance and fiduciary oversight.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Team, and partners with executive leadership to align financial strategy with programmatic priorities, operational realities, and mission outcomes.
- Grants compliance and accreditation oversight:
- Oversees grants compliance and accreditation functions, ensuring adherence to statutory regulations and funder requirements.
- Ensures effective grant management systems and practices, including award negotiation, continuation funding, audit coordination, and subcontract monitoring.
- Ensures organizational readiness for audits, monitoring visits, and accreditation reviews, with issues identified early and addressed effectively.
- People leadership and organizational accountability:
- Responsible for the hiring, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, and dismissal of direct reports, including senior leadership positions, in accordance with Agency policies and procedures. Ensures staff are informed, their activities are well coordinated, and they have the necessary resources to carry out their work.
- Ensures their departments comply with all requirements outlined by funding sources, licensure and accrediting bodies, the program, and the agency. These requirements may pertain to data, paperwork, training, processes, and procedures, among other things.
- Represents their departments at leadership meetings as appropriate and communicates agency and leadership decisions to their teams.
- Prepares for and actively participates in supervision meetings and all other required meetings or trainings
Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Public Administration or related field; and
- Requires 8+ years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience; and
- Minimum 5 years of senior management and supervisory experience; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, federal and state funding requirements, and complex compliance environments.
- Experience overseeing audits, financial reporting, and multimillion-dollar budgets across multiple funding streams.
- Experience with nonprofit and/or government-funded organizations preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
