Business Operations Manager

Compensation: $100,000 – $125,000 + performance bonus

POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Operations Manager serves as the CEO’s right hand and is responsible for overseeing daily operations, financial performance, and team execution across a growing food distribution company.
This is a hands-on leadership role with full operational visibility. The individual in this position is expected to step in and run the company when the CEO is overseas.
The ideal candidate understands distribution operations, inventory control, AR discipline, staff management, and financial performance drivers in a physical-goods business.
This is not a purely accounting or administrative position. It is an operational leadership role with financial accountability.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operational Leadership & Execution
- Oversee coordination between office, warehouse, drivers, and sales teams
- Ensure daily order processing, fulfillment accuracy, and logistics efficiency
- Monitor on-time deliveries, shrink, and operational KPIs
- Enforce SOPs and implement process improvements
- Identify cost reduction and workflow optimization opportunities
- Step in to manage operations during CEO absence
2. Financial Oversight & Performance Management
- Review monthly financial statements and operational reports
- Monitor AR aging and enforce collection accountability with sales reps
- Approve customer credit exposure and manage risk
- Oversee vendor payment timing and cash flow planning
- Monitor gross margins by product line and sales channel
- Coordinate inventory reconciliation and cycle count accuracy
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting
- Liaise with outside CPA firm for year-end and tax compliance
3. Team Leadership & Organizational Discipline
- Hire, onboard, and manage office staff
- Support warehouse staffing coordination and performance tracking
- Hold department leads accountable for KPIs
- Oversee payroll inputs, PTO tracking, and timekeeping controls
- Maintain regulatory compliance (insurance, HACCP, FSMA, renewals)
- Serve as central communication hub across departments
4. Strategic & Systems Improvement
- Create KPIs and prepare operational dashboards for executive review
- Identify automation and system improvement opportunities
- Evaluate ERP workflow efficiency and reporting accuracy
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate service contracts
- Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- 5+ years of leadership experience in distribution, logistics, wholesale, or physical goods operations
- Experience managing 10+ employees in a hands-on environment
- Strong understanding of P&L statements, cash flow, AR aging, and inventory turns
- Demonstrated success improving operational efficiency and cash discipline
- Ability to make decisions independently and hold teams accountable
- Comfortable working in warehouse and office environments
Preferred:
- Food distribution experience (Fresh & Frozen Seafood, Meats)
- ERP experience (QuickBooks, Business Central)
- Experience improving AR days and inventory turns
- Lean/process improvement exposure

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
