Interim Chief Financial Officer (15-Month Contract)

Our client, a Toronto-based asset management and private equity firm, is seeking an Interim Chief Financial Officer to provide leadership and continuity. This role goes beyond traditional finance responsibilities and requires a strategic, hands-on leader who can partner closely with the investment team on deal review, financial oversight, and operational finance functions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in private equity, asset management, or investment environments, with the ability to work collaboratively with investment professionals and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Oversee financial reporting and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting processes.
- Maintain strong financial controls and compliance processes.
- Work with existing reporting structures primarily built in Excel and financial workbooks.
Investment & Deal Support
- Partner with the investment team on financial modeling, deal review, and investment analysis.
- Support acquisitions and divestitures, including financial diligence and transaction analysis.
- Review and assess legal agreements related to deals and investment structures.
Investor Relations
- Support investor reporting and communications.
- Assist with preparation of investor materials and financial insights.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
- Oversee financial governance and regulatory requirements typical of an asset management environment.
Operational Finance Oversight
- Oversee payroll administration
- Manage internal financial processes and collaborate with operational teams as needed.
Qualifications
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Significant leadership experience in private equity, asset management, or investment firms.
- Experience supporting investment teams with deal review and financial modeling.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, compliance, and investor reporting.
- Comfortable working in Excel-heavy financial environments.
- Experience reviewing legal agreements and transaction documentation is an asset.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach.
