Our client in the non-profit sector is seeking a Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership during a period of organizational growth and operational modernization. This role will guide financial planning, governance, and sustainability while supporting leadership and the Board with financial insight and decision support.
Duration: 6 months to start, approx 20 hours per week, with greater involvement during the initial onboarding and assessment phase.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the senior financial advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and Board, providing strategic financial guidance to support organizational sustainability and mission delivery.
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling to support programs, fundraising initiatives, and operational priorities.
- Oversee financial management in accordance with Canadian non-profit accounting standards, including stewardship of donor funds, grants, and restricted funding.
- Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and insights to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.
- Strengthen financial governance, policies, risk management practices, and internal controls.
- Provide oversight and guidance to finance and shared services functions, potentially including finance operations, procurement, HR, or technology coordination.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency.
- Provide strategic input on financial systems, reporting tools, and technology platforms that support scalable financial operations.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of senior finance leadership experience, including experience as a CFO, VP Finance, or Director of Finance.
- Strong experience in the Canadian non-profit or charitable sector, including familiarity with donor funding structures, grants, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience overseeing or improving shared services environments
- Experience implementing or modernizing financial systems and reporting platforms
- Experience supporting Boards of Directors and Finance Committees, including preparing and presenting board-level financial materials.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic financial leadership in mission-driven organizations.
- Strong financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling expertise.
- Experience strengthening financial governance, reporting frameworks, and operational financial processes.
