Salary: $180k - $225k base, plus bonus and benefits

Hybrid schedule: 2 - 3 days from home
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, strategic, and operationally strong Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the full cycle of accounting and finance for a growing single-family homebuilding and development company. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for complete ownership of the company’s financial operations while serving as a strategic partner to the Head of Operations.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in the boardroom and in the details — capable of running complex financial models and stress-testing capital structures, while also overseeing day-to-day accounting functions including AR/AP, financial reporting, and controls. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves role in a lean, growth-oriented organization where collaboration and adaptability are key.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Own and lead all accounting and finance functions across the organization
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with growth objectives
- Lead cash flow planning, liquidity management, and capital allocation decisions
- Conduct financial modeling, forecasting, and stress testing of projects and corporate structure
- Provide strategic guidance on financing structures, capital stack optimization, and risk management
Banking & Capital Markets
- Serve as primary liaison with banks and lending partners
- Structure, negotiate, and manage construction loans, development financing, and credit facilities
- Monitor loan covenants and compliance requirements
- Evaluate debt strategies and recommend optimal financing solutions
Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee full-cycle accounting including general ledger, AR/AP, job costing, and financial close
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls and processes
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes
- Oversee tax planning and coordination with external CPA firms
Development & Construction Finance
- Partner with operations and project management teams to evaluate project feasibility
- Monitor job costs, margins, and variance analysis across active communities
- Support land acquisition underwriting and deal evaluation
- Analyze cost structures and profitability across subdivisions and product types
Team Leadership & Operations
- Manage a small accounting team (direct reports)
- Oversee AR/AP functions and day-to-day financial operations
- Improve systems, processes, and reporting capabilities
- Support broader business initiatives beyond finance when needed
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Prior experience in real estate development and/or homebuilding strongly preferred
- Experience with construction accounting, job costing, and development finance
- Strong understanding of construction lending, capital stacks, and banking relationships
- Demonstrated ability to manage both strategic finance and hands-on accounting responsibilities
- Experience working in small to mid-sized organizations with lean teams
- CPA strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
