Our New York City based construction client is seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead all financial functions of the organization. This executive will play a critical role in driving financial performance, improving operational efficiency, and supporting the company’s continued growth in the commercial flooring and construction services industry.
The CFO will partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to provide financial insight, oversee project-based accounting, and enhance reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management across multiple job sites and contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO on financial strategy, growth initiatives, and long-term planning
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
- Support business expansion, pricing strategy, and contract profitability analysis
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, revenue recognition, and month-end close
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Develop and maintain KPIs, dashboards, and job-level profitability reporting
Construction / Project Accounting
- Manage percentage-of-completion accounting and cost tracking across projects
- Oversee WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules, job costing, and cost-to-complete analysis
- Monitor contract performance, change orders, and margin variances
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Optimize cash flow, working capital, and liquidity planning
- Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and bonding requirements
- Oversee collections, payables, and vendor relationships
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with tax, audit, and regulatory requirements
- Implement internal controls and risk management processes
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and insurance providers
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, mentor, and lead the accounting and finance team
- Improve systems, processes, and financial infrastructure
- Drive a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA preferred
- CPA strongly preferred
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including CFO or VP Finance level
- Prior experience in construction, contracting, or project-based environments (highly preferred)
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
- Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands-on
