Position Overview
Our client, a prominent, Mid-Atlantic based, national homebuilding/construction company, seeks a talented, experienced Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) to join the organization’s senior leadership team.
The CFO serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors and other members of the senior executive leadership team, providing insights that help shape corporate strategy, growth initiatives, and shareholder value creation.
This position requires a strategic financial leader with a focus on process improvement, operational efficiency, and precise financial reporting. The CFO implements scalable, financial systems, processes, and controls to support continued geographic expansion and operational complexity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all financial functions across multiple divisions, including cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, risk/compliance, and financial reporting.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations by consistently monitoring legislative changes and implementing necessary policies, controls, and procedures.
- Identify and assess new revenue streams and growth opportunities by evaluating market conditions, economic trends, and competitive dynamics within the homebuilding and construction sector.
- Collaborate with operational leadership to evaluate business performance, optimize cost structures, and enhance margins using data-driven insights and process improvements.
- Lead enterprise risk management initiatives by reviewing financial exposures, such as liabilities, investments, and market risks, and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Design, implement, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial dashboards to measure organizational performance, proactively identify variances, and recommend corrective measures.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive financial reports, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting and finance team, promoting a high-performance culture centered on accountability, continual improvement, and professional growth.
- Maintain the integrity and scalability of financial systems, internal controls, and reporting processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory authorities such as the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Internal Revenue Service.
- Work cross-functionally to support strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and long-term business development initiatives.
Key Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with CPA and/or CFA credentials strongly preferred.
- Proven executive-level financial leadership experience (CFO or equivalent) in the homebuilding, construction, or real estate development industry.
- Extensive expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit procedures, with a solid understanding of sector-specific financial practices.
- Demonstrated achievement in improving operational efficiencies, optimizing costs, and developing scalable financial infrastructure.
- Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills, with a capability to convert complex financial data into actionable recommendations.
- Proven record of building, managing, and developing high-performing finance and accounting teams.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, with experience presenting to executive leadership and board members.
- Upholds a high standard of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment when handling confidential and sensitive financial information.
