Our client in Aurora, ON is looking to add a Director of Business Operations to their team. This role supports succession planning for the current VP Operations allowing for a planned transition while introducing an enhanced level of operational and people leadership.
This role provides a portfolio of operational services by leading and coaching front line leaders (supervisor/managers) across various functions.
Supply Chain Management: includes 1 Manager, 2 buyers and 1 import coordinator role. Understand global supply chain, sourcing from overseas suppliers, category management for responsibility over all product buying and replenishment as the biggest expenditure for the Company. Leverage analytics and technology to manage this function, develop a new SCM Manager and partner with the 3 senior sales leaders.
Warehousing: includes 2 Managers who manage 2 warehouses (inhouse and US 3PL) and all related order fulfillment and transportation (truck/rail) service, including stock transfers and warehouse restocking using a warehouse management and ERP system.
This is a seasoned multi-functional operational leader with a strong background in supply chain management as a critical business function. This role must integrate the above 2 operational teams to help enable strong, commercially competitive, operational services that underpin Company growth.
Duties and Responsibilities Highlights
Supply Chain Management
- Oversee the procurement for over 6,000 SKUs of commercial/retail products for 3 divisions from worldwide suppliers
- Strong understanding of overseas strategies for product design, production, volume and pricing negotiations, vendor relationships
- Understand various country capabilities for manufacturing and shipping functions
- Work with senior sales leaders as partners to help them with bulk product buys and hold sales accountable to forecasts to manage inventory and to help move slow moving inventory
- Manage duty drawbacks, tariffs and work with Finance for large product expenditures (through self and others)
Replenishment
- Accountable for product replenishment to meet mandated fill rates as a critical business function. Work with the Manager SCM to develop a Demand Planner in BC and leverage analytics for cost/price opportunities vs. current excel use.
Sourcing
- Oversee a new SCM Manager for sourcing and strategies for evaluating and sourcing suppliers for all products (custom and off the shelf) for efficiencies, opportunities and risks.
Product Management
- Review product categories for profitability, turns by category, missing or products that should be dropped. Manage inventory reduction strategies for overstocks working with Sales.
Warehousing
- Leverage systems, processes, technology to improve warehouse picking, packing and shipping performance both for owned and US 3PLwarehouse. Integrate new drop-shipping services when ready and oversee inbound/outbound transportation services (truck/rail, containers) leveraging analytics for commercial and service viability.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in supply chain or finance. MBA preferred to bring methodologies and analytics to role with high level of business acumen
- 15+ years of progressive supply chain and operational experience in comparable CPG industries (no fashion, textiles or industries that are not comparable)
- Preference for foodservice or related manufacturing or small parts/products industries
- Strong leader and mentor of front line leaders to increase leadership capability
- Strong business acumen to understand all parts of a business for risks/opportunities
- Strong process management approaches to incrementally optimize operations
- Strong partner and business acumen to 3 senior sales leaders (Sr. Director and 2 VPs)
- Strong financial acumen to manage a significant budget including forecasting and planning working in partnership with the Director of Finance
