CFO Opportunity | Professional Services
We at Conexus are partnering with a high-growth client in the professional services sector to identify a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This individual will lead the corporate finance function and play a key role in driving operational performance, financial strategy, and organizational scale.
This opportunity is with a leading financial and strategic advisory firm serving private companies and nonprofit organizations, delivering a range of high-impact services including outsourced CFO support, operational and financial management, and broader business advisory solutions.
Your Impact
The CFO will oversee a team across Finance and Accounting, and will be responsible for driving financial discipline, operational efficiency, and performance across the business. This role will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, helping shape long-term direction through data-driven insights and strong cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial management and planning across all business units and enabling functions (IT, HR, Legal, Marketing)
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes
- Establish and track key performance metrics to drive accountability and transparency
- Lead ERP implementation and enhance financial systems, processes, and controls
- Partner with external advisors on tax strategy, compliance, and reporting
- Oversee treasury, liquidity, and banking relationships
- Evaluate cost structures and identify opportunities for operational efficiency
- Lead monthly close, audit process, and external reporting
- Build and develop a high-performing finance organization
- Support M&A and broader growth initiatives
Must Haves
- 20+ years of experience, including 10+ years in senior finance leadership roles
- Professional services industry experience as a CFO (current or prior), with exposure to fee-based business models (ideally with a rates times hours component) such as tax/accounting/audit/advisory, business consulting, IT consulting, BPO, legal services, or similar environments
- Prior experience in a Big 4, Tier II, or super regional CPA firm accounting firm
- Proven experience leading ERP implementations and financial transformations
- Strong understanding of partnership taxation and related structures
- Track record of strategic planning, business partnership, and team leadership
Preferred
- Experience as a CFO in a PE-backed or founder-led business
- Strong leadership presence with a collaborative, service-oriented mindset
- Ability to build teams, lead through change, and operate in a dynamic environment
- Experience supporting M&A in a growth-oriented setting
Must be able to work onsite, in NYC, on a hybrid basis.
