Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key strategic leader responsible for overseeing all financial, accounting, and risk management functions for a real estate–focused enterprise. The CFO drives capital strategy, ensures financial discipline, manages relationships with capital providers, and provides analytical insights that support long-term growth across development, acquisitions, and operating portfolios. The role combines high-level financial stewardship with hands-on operational leadership in a dynamic, asset intensive environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy in alignment with corporate growth objectives
- Lead corporate financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range modeling, including liquidity and cash forecasting
- Manage liquidity, working capital, and cash flow to support development pipelines, acquisitions, and stabilized assets
- Provide regular reporting to ownership, the Board, and senior leadership on financial performance and strategic initiatives
2. Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, development accounting, tax, audit, internal controls, and reporting systems
- Ensure timely and accurate internal financial reporting, including property level and consolidated statements
- Lead external reporting, including lender reporting, investor reporting, audits, and tax compliance
- Establish and maintain accounting policies, controls, and procedures that meet GAAP and real estate–specific regulatory requirements
- Oversee treasury operations, including cash management, bank administration, and payment systems
3. Capital Markets & Debt Management
- Lead all debt financing activities, including acquisition loans, construction financing, refinance opportunities, and credit facilities
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, bond issuers, rating agencies, and capital partners
- Optimize capital structure, evaluate financing alternatives, negotiate loan terms, and ensure covenant compliance
- Support capital markets activities related to joint ventures, recapitalizations, preferred equity, and other structured capital solutions
4. Fundraising & Investor Relations
- Support fundraising efforts for company initiatives, including private equity capital raises, fund formation, and co investment strategies
- Develop materials and financial models to support investor pitches and ongoing reporting
- Serve as a primary contact for investors and strategic partners, ensuring transparency and confidence in financial performance and governance
5. Risk Management
- Provide executive oversight for enterprise risk management (ERM), ensuring proactive identification and mitigation of financial, operational, and asset level risks
- Oversee insurance programs, claims oversight, risk pools, and coordination of property level and corporate coverage
- Partner with leaders across operations, HR, legal, and development to mitigate exposure and maintain organizational resilience
6. Performance Analysis & Strategic Insights
- Lead asset management function. Review and assess portfolio level and property level performance analysis, including NOI trends, variances, KPIs, and investment return analysis
- Provide financial analysis for development feasibility, acquisitions, dispositions, and major capital investments, including buy, hold, and exit strategy analysis
- Support valuation processes for assets, funds, and partnerships using real estate–specific methodologies
- Guide resource allocation decisions across the organization through data-driven insights
7. Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing Finance and Accounting team
- Foster a culture of analytical rigor, accountability, transparency, and operational partnership
- Collaborate closely with the CEO and executive team on strategic planning, business development, and organizational scaling
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred
- 10–20+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within real estate investment, development, private equity, or asset management
- Deep understanding of real-estate accounting, fund structures, debt financing, capital markets, and valuation
- Demonstrated success managing lender and investor relationships
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience overseeing risk management and insurance programs strongly preferred
