Our valued client is a West LA based vertically integrated real estate investment, development, and property management platform with approximately $1.5 billion in assets under management and a diverse portfolio of over 300 multifamily properties. The platform operates through a structure of over 100 legal entities and partnerships and is supported by an experienced leadership team and investor base. The organization is entering its next phase of growth and seeks a senior finance leader to strengthen and scale its accounting infrastructure.
Position Summary
This individual will serve as a strategic and operational leader responsible for strengthening and scaling the accounting and finance function. Reporting to the Managing Director of the partnership, this hands-on leader will oversee and elevate the accounting leadership team and engage both strategically and tactically to drive execution. This role will streamline processes, accelerate the speed and accuracy of financial reporting, and build scalable infrastructure across more than 100 legal entities and numerous bank accounts to support continued portfolio growth. The successful candidate will bring a strong operational mindset with a proven ability to troubleshoot bottlenecks, enhance team performance, and implement scalable systems that support organizational growth. Reports to the Managing Director of the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Streamline and enhance the speed, accuracy, and consistency of monthly and quarterly financial closes.
- Oversee and elevate the existing accounting team, including direct supervision and overall development.
- Partner on implementation and optimization of accounting systems and tools to support scalability and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any bottlenecks in financial reporting, tax preparation, and audit readiness, ensuring timely and accurate deliverables.
- Streamline cash management and banking infrastructure, including oversight and coordination of numerous bank accounts associated with more than 100 legal entities.
- Lead partnership accounting activities, including capital calls, distributions, waterfalls, and investor reporting.
- Oversee development accounting, ensuring accurate project cost tracking, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Support lender and investor relationships and ensure compliance with debt covenants and financing requirements.
- Strengthen internal controls and governance across the organization’s financial operations.
- Partner with ownership on capital planning, portfolio performance, and growth.
- Build and scale financial infrastructure (reporting, forecasting, controls).
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Support refinancing and investment decisions.
- Optimize financial systems, including Yardi and related platforms, to support scalability and enhance information flow.
- Partner with executive leadership to support strategic initiatives, acquisitions, dispositions, and continued portfolio growth.
- Act as a hands-on leader, stepping into operational details when necessary to ensure successful execution.
Qualifications
- Extensive progressive experience in accounting and finance, including senior leadership within multifamily real estate investment, development, and property management platforms, with a demonstrated ability to improve team performance and streamline reporting processes.
- Experience leading and developing accounting leadership teams, including oversight of all key functions, with a strong hands-on operational orientation.
- Demonstrated success managing multi-entity real estate structures, with experience overseeing 100 or more legal entities strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of improving accounting team performance and reducing financial reporting timelines.
- Expertise in partnership accounting, development accounting, and supporting lender and investor reporting.
- Strong understanding of cash management and treasury operations across many bank accounts.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Familiarity with capital planning and potential future capital raising or refinancing activities.
- Advanced proficiency with Yardi or comparable real estate enterprise systems and customized reporting tools.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- VP Finance or CFO level experience
