A mission-driven nonprofit organization in Los Angeles is seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on a contract-to-hire basis.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and month-end close
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit standards
- Lead the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial models
Nonprofit Compliance & Fund Accounting- Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, grant requirements, and donor restrictions
- Oversee fund accounting, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds
- Manage annual audits and coordinate with external auditors
Grants & Funding Oversight- Partner with program and development teams to manage grant budgets and reporting
- Monitor funding sources, cash flow, and financial health across programs
- Support fundraising efforts with financial data and insights
Operational & Team Leadership- Build, lead, and mentor the finance and accounting team
- Strengthen financial processes, controls, and systems to improve efficiency and transparency
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and operational improvements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)5-10 years of progressive finance experience, including significant experience in nonprofit organizations
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and compliance requirements
- Proven experience managing budgets, financial reporting, and audits
