Business Operations Manager - DoD
Position Overview
A rapidly growing technology organization operating in the aerospace/defense sector is seeking a Manager of Finance & Business Operations to support a high-priority business unit. This individual will serve as a key operational partner to leadership, bridging strategic execution with day-to-day business and financial operations.
This role is ideal for a proactive, self-directed professional who can operate comfortably across both strategic initiatives and hands-on execution. Responsibilities include establishing and managing program financial infrastructure, enabling accurate forecasting and reporting, and ensuring operational alignment across multiple functions.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, Business Development, Program Management, and Engineering teams to provide leadership with clear visibility into program performance and organizational health.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation, configuration, and ongoing management of an ERP-based project accounting system (including project setup, labor tracking, billing, and reporting)
- Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency across enterprise systems, including reconciliation processes
- Drive cross-functional process design and optimization to ensure seamless data flow from proposal through program execution
- Develop and enhance financial reporting, forecasting, and planning frameworks to support business growth and decision-making
- Support leadership with operational coordination, reporting, and execution of key initiatives
- Establish and document scalable business processes to improve efficiency across engineering, operations, and program delivery
- Monitor program financial performance, including cost tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related discipline
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in program finance, FP&A, or business operations, preferably within aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries
- Strong experience working with DoD finance, working for a defense contractor or defense tech company
- Hands-on experience with ERP/project accounting systems preferably Deltek Costpoint (implementation, configuration, or optimization strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with government contracting and compliance frameworks (e.g., cost accounting standards, audit requirements, procurement regulations)
- Demonstrated ability to own projects end-to-end with minimal oversight
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, with strong working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) in Finance, Strategy, or a related field
- Experience working in regulated or export-controlled environments
- Background supporting complex engineering or hardware-driven programs
- Familiarity with tools such as ERP systems, CRM platforms, and project management software
