About Pravati Capital & 1787 Legal Group
Pravati Capital is a pioneer in litigation finance, providing capital solutions to law firms and commercial litigants nationwide through established private investment funds. The firm combines a proven underwriting platform, a seasoned investment team, and an entrepreneurial culture to deliver attractive, risk-adjusted returns to investors while expanding access to justice.
1787 Legal Group is an affiliated alternative business structure (ABS) law firm that operates at the intersection of law and capital. 1787 partners closely with Pravati, operating within a multi-entity ecosystem. Together, the platform spans fund management, ABS legal services, and shared operational infrastructure, creating a differentiated ecosystem in a rapidly growing asset class.
Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, the platform includes Pravati’s fund vehicles, 1787 Legal Group, and related management and service entities, with continued expansion of products, geography, and M&A activity.
Role Overview
The CFO/COO will be the CEO’s primary partner in owning firm-wide financial strategy, fund finance, and day-to-day operating execution across Pravati Capital, 1787 Legal Group, and the broader multi-entity structure. This executive steps into a functioning platform, with funds, an ABS law firm, and core infrastructure already in place, and is tasked with tightening, scaling, and institutionalizing it for the next level of growth.
Success in this role means strengthening the capital structure, elevating fund and management company reporting, overseeing financial operations across ABS/management entities (with some MSO-like characteristics), leading M&A and strategic initiatives, and running a disciplined operating system that keeps the entire ecosystem aligned, accountable, and performing.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Finance & Fund / Platform Leadership
- Own financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting across Pravati’s fund vehicles, 1787 Legal Group, and related entities.
- Oversee fund accounting, capital calls, distributions, NAV, and investor reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and institutional-quality output.
- Design and manage the overall capital structure and liquidity strategy across the platform, optimizing deployment of investment capital and operating cash.
- Develop robust financial models, dashboards, and scorecards that give leadership and investors clear visibility into fund, firm, and ABS performance.
- Support capital-raising efforts with investor-ready materials, due diligence support, and direct engagement with RIAs, family offices, and other capital partners.
ABS / Multi-Entity Structure Management
- Oversee financial operations across ABS-related management entities, 1787 Legal Group, and any affiliated professional entities.
- Design and maintain management services and intercompany arrangements that govern revenue sharing, fee structures, and cost allocation between ABS and management entities, drawing where appropriate on MSO-style best practices.
- Ensure proper revenue flow, cost allocation, and transfer pricing across the ABS ecosystem in line with applicable regulatory and structural requirements.
- Partner with legal and compliance leadership to align financial structures with evolving ABS regulations and risk management considerations.
Operational Leadership (COO Scope)
- Run the operating system of the platform (EOS-based today), including quarterly/annual planning, KPI scorecards, and cross-functional meeting cadence.
- Drive execution across underwriting, portfolio management, ABS legal operations (1787), HR, IT, and administration, ensuring priorities are clear and followed through.
- Own operational KPIs across entities, identify bottlenecks, and lead process improvements that increase speed, quality, and scalability.
- Ensure the right people are in the right roles, promote a culture of accountability, and remove obstacles so teams can perform at a high level.
- Oversee key vendor relationships, technology stack, and office operations in support of a high-performing, hybrid team.
M&A and Strategic Transactions
- Lead or co-lead all M&A and strategic transaction activity across the platform, from thesis and pipeline through integration.
- Own financial due diligence, valuation, deal structuring, and modeling for acquisitions and strategic partnerships involving funds, ABS entities, and service entities.
- Present clear, data-driven recommendations on inorganic growth opportunities to the CEO and leadership team.
- Coordinate with external counsel, advisors, and counterparties to drive deals through close and post-close integration.
Controls, Risk, and Compliance
- Ensure strong internal controls, financial integrity, and compliance across funds, 1787 Legal Group (ABS), and related entities.
- Manage audits, tax planning, lender and banking relationships, and all financial regulatory and reporting obligations across the platform.
Qualifications
Must-Haves
- Progressive experience in finance and/or operations leadership, including at least 5 years in a CFO, COO, or equivalent C-suite/number-two role.
- Direct, hands-on M&A experience, having led or materially contributed to at least two completed transactions (buy-side or sell-side).
- Background in private credit, alternative investments, fund management, or similarly complex, multi-entity platforms.
- Deep understanding of corporate and fund finance, including forecasting, capital planning, and performance measurement.
- Demonstrated ability to run a structured operating system (e.g., EOS or similar) and drive execution using KPIs, scorecards, and clear accountability.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a disciplined, data-driven approach.
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence; comfortable engaging directly with investors, lenders, auditors, and internal teams.
- High integrity and sound judgment in handling sensitive, confidential, and time-sensitive matters.
- Arizona-based or willing to relocate to Arizona prior to start date.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in a private equity-backed environment or with institutional LPs.
- CPA, CFA, MBA, or comparable advanced credential.
- Experience scaling ABS or MSO-like platforms (HoldCo/management/professional entities) with complex intercompany structures.
- Prior exposure to litigation finance, legal services, or other regulated professional services models.
- Familiarity with EOS specifically and experience facilitating leadership planning sessions.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful CFO/COO at Pravati / 1787 is:
- Strategic and hands-on: Equally comfortable in the boardroom shaping strategy and in the details building models, refining reports, or pressure-testing assumptions across funds and ABS entities.
- Operator at scale: Has taken a multi-entity or PE-style platform from “working” to “institutional,” tightening controls, professionalizing reporting, and building repeatable systems without killing entrepreneurial energy.
- Deal-minded: Enjoys M&A, understands how transactions create value across a platform (funds, ABS, management entities), and can drive deals with a pragmatic, execution-focused lens.
- Data-driven and decisive: Uses data to drive decisions, but does not get stuck in analysis; knows when 80% confidence is enough to move.
- Candid and collaborative: Brings a direct, transparent communication style, is willing to challenge and be challenged, and aligns quickly with the CEO and leadership team.
- Culture carrier: Models high integrity, ownership, and accountability, and raises the bar for the team through expectations and support, not bureaucracy.
Compensation
Total compensation ranges from $150,000 to $500,000 annually, structured as a combination of:
• Base salary (commensurate with experience)
• Performance-based commission tied to fund and firm milestones
• Equity participation in the firm
Final structure will be determined based on candidate experience, package preference, and alignment with firm goals.
Why This Role is Unique
- Lead in a pioneering ABS-driven platform: Combine leadership over a differentiated litigation finance platform and an affiliated ABS law firm within a sophisticated, multi-entity structure.
- Step into a working engine, then scale it: Funds, ABS firm, and operating systems are in place; this role is about tightening, scaling, and institutionalizing—not building from scratch.
- Own both finance and operations across entities: Unlike narrower CFO roles, this position combines strategic finance, fund leadership, and true COO authority over a complex, ABS-centered ecosystem.
- Partner directly with the CEO: Act as a thought partner and key counterpart to a founder-led, growth-minded CEO with a clear vision and appetite for continued expansion and M&A.
- High visibility, high impact: Your decisions will shape capital structure, entity design, operational discipline, and the value created for investors, partners, and clients.
