A well‑established, Chicago‑based lower‑middle‑market private equity firm is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to play a critical leadership role across the firm and its portfolio. This is a high‑impact opportunity for a senior finance executive to operate at both the firm and portfolio‑company level within an active private equity environment.
The CFO will oversee all firm‑level financial operations while partnering closely with investment professionals, operating partners, and portfolio company leadership teams. The ideal candidate brings strong technical finance expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to add value in complex, transaction‑driven settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all firm‑level finance, accounting, reporting, and compliance activities
- Serve as a strategic partner to investment leadership on financial performance, capital structure, and portfolio oversight
- Support acquisitions, integrations, refinancings, and exit planning from a financial perspective
- Help design and enhance financial infrastructure, controls, and reporting across portfolio companies
- Act as a trusted advisor to CEOs and management teams on budgeting, forecasting, and value‑creation initiatives
Ideal Background
- Prior CFO experience within private equity, PE‑backed companies, or lower‑middle‑market environments
- Deep familiarity with transaction dynamics, leverage, debt facilities, and investor reporting
- Experience working with boards, founders, and investment committees
- CPA and/or prior public accounting background preferred
